Ant-Man 3 is gearing up for release and is about to be epic not just in terms of the plotine and action sequences, but also what it has in store for fans in terms of special effects. Jeff Loveness, script writer of the sequel, opened up about the filming process for the Marvel Studios film in the I Said No Gifts! podcast and it sure sounds exciting.

Loveness explains how Ant-Man 3 is using Volume Technology, which has been utilized in major Hollywood productions like The Mandalorian, in recent years:

"I don’t know if you watch The Mandalorian or any of that stuff. There’s this new technology called The Volume, which is basically a living green screen. You can actually put up the backgrounds and the cool visual effects that you want in real-time. Much better for the actors, and then they’ll do digital stuff later to make it look better. It is pretty cool, it reminds me of an old David Lean matte painting or something in the background, or Wizard of Oz."

The Volume technology involves filming actors and practical set pieces while surrounded by a high-definition LED video wall displaying computer-generated backdrops. This new technology is fast gaining popularity in Hollywood.

The Mandalorian and its first spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, as well as the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series used the new technology. Even Marvel Studios' upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder is reportedly filming with the Volume.

What will Ant-Man 3 be about?

The plot for Ant-Man 3 is being kept under wraps by Marvel. However, it has been revealed that Bill Murray has been cast, who will be appearing as a mystery villain along with Kang the Conquerer who will be played by Jonathan Majors.

Evangeline Lilly will also be appearing in the role of Hope van Dyne or the Wasp in the movie. The Volume technology is specifically benefitting for the scene of Evangeline Lilly's Wasp, who flies around in a forest.

The Volume enhanced the action sequence, with the camera following her every move, making it look like a legitimate shot from the film. Paul Rudd will also be returning to his role as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is slated for release on July 28, 2023.
