When Calls the Heart, the Hallmark Channel romance, is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling series about the Canadian West. The story follows a young schoolteacher and single mother, Elizabeth, who is left to fend for herself and find the strength to move on with her life when her husband is killed on duty.
When Calls the Heart started airing its ninth season recently. The season 9 premiere of the hit Hallmark Channel series ended on a sad note as Mountie Nathan Grant got injured in an accident with a car on the road outside of Hope Valley.
A preview for the the second episode of the romance, which is scheduled to air on March 13 does not reveal Nathan’s fate, but shows some really alarming consequences of the accident.
What to expect in season 9, episode 1 of When Calls The Heart?
In the preview for the second episode Out Like a Lamb, viewers see Lucas informing Elizabeth of Nathan’s accident and Elizabeth going to the infirmary to pay Nathan a visit. Faith, who is looking after the injured Nathan declares to Elizabeth that he may have suffered some memory loss due to the accident. Faith’s suspicions are soon confirmed when Nathan is unable to recognize Elizabeth.
In other news, the residents of Hope Valley go to the polls to elect their new mayor. Lee, Bill, and Hickam are the candidates, but it remains undisclosed who secures the highest number of votes and is elected mayor of the town.
The teaser also offers a sneak peak of the blossoming romance between Lucas and Elizabeth in the aftermath of the romantic hot air balloon ride that Lucas took her on in the season premiere. Elizabeth tells Lucas that she had a lovely time but he does not need to go overboard with such grand romantic gestures because small ones mean just as much to her.
