Anthony Anderson has stepped in to host the 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards, the three-hour ceremony that will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on January 15, 2024. Anthony, who bagged his seven consecutive Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category, steps into the shoes of Saturday Night Live fame Kenan Thompson, who hosted the ceremony in 2022.

Additionally, he has also been nominated for four Emmys as a producer on black-ish in the Oustanding Comedy Series category. In a press release, Anthony explained that hosting the 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards is nothing less than a celebratory moment for him. He said:

“With our industry's recent challenges behind us, we can get back to what we love, dressing up and honoring ourselves. And there's no better celebratory moment to bring the creative community together than the milestone 75th Emmy Awards."
"When FOX asked me to host this historic telecast, I was over the moon that Taylor Swift was unavailable, and now I can't wait to be part of the biggest night in television," he continued.

2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards host Anthony Anderson is an Emmy regular

Even before landing the hosting gig in 2023 Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards, Anthony was an Emmy regular, having been nominated seven years in a row in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for his stint in black-ish. Over the years, viewers have grown attached to his signature character Andre “Dre” Johnson, for his proud patriarchal nuances and family-man antics.

Hailing from Compton, the American actor credits his mother for inspiring his vision of being in the entertainment scene. His dream began at the mere age of nine as he watched his mom perform on a stage.

Anthony kick-started his journey with an unsuccessful stint as a stand-up artist before landing his first television role in 1995 in LL Cool J’s sitcom In the House.

It didn’t take long for him to receive movie roles and Anthony chose multiple projects to portray his diversity as an actor, be it in the Jet Li-starring actioner Romeo Must Die or Martin Lawrence comedy flick Big Momma’s House.

Despite his flourishing movie career, Anthony remained focused on making a niche for himself in the television world.

He has since developed his show, All About the Andersons and appeared in beloved roles in hard-hitting crime stories of Law & Order and The Shield. After the end of black-ish in 2022, Anthony grew busier traveling with his mother in the European series Trippin’ with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris. The mother-son pair also host the game show We Are Family together.

One of his latest stints includes launching the barbecue label, AC Barbeque, the journey of which is documented in the unscripted series Kings of BBQ, released in August 2023.

For his exceptional contribution to the entertainment industry, the actor was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2020. Two years later, he became the recipient of the 2022 Disney Legend Award, the highest accolade that recognizes individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to The Walt Disney company.
