3 likely contenders to become inaugural AEW World Champion

The pro wrestling industry has been full of promotions since the beginning.

In the early days, the NWA controlled multiple wrestling territories. However, things changed when Vince McMahon took control of WWE. Since then fans have witnessed a war between WCW and WWE, and the creation of ROH and Impact Wrestling. Nevertheless, other promotions like NJPW have kept pace.

In 2019 the wrestling world changed once more, with the introduction of AEW. Why is this promotion so different?

#3 Pac

In early 2013, NXT fans witnessed the debut of Adrian Neville, real name - Benjamin Satterley. Using this character he was able to springboard to peak levels of success within NXT.

He became the first man to win the NXT tag team and NXT championships. Moreover, he participated in classic matches, notably against Finn Balor. However, in 2015 Satterley debuted for the main roster. He would progress to become arguably the best WWE Cruiserweight Champion to date.

In 2018 Neville officially left WWE.

On October 2, 2018, Satterley returned to Dragon Gate under the name, Pac. He has progressed immensely, becoming Open the Dream Gate Champion. Moreover, he has aligned himself with the stable R.E.D.

At the recent AEW Rally, Pac confirmed his contract with AEW, challenging Adam Page.

Satterley is immensely talented, and has a plethora of abilities. Being an aerial master, he is also able to outlast opponents with technical wrestling. Regardless of his usage within AEW, his Pac character will be lucrative for the promotion. He is a clear choice to become AEW's first champion.

#2 Chris Jericho

He would be a brilliant option to become their inaugural champion

Chris Jericho first became noticed within WCW, specifically during his feud with Dean Malenko, which afforded unforgettable content. However, Jericho was destined for higher success.

In 1999 he debuted in WWE. Since then his career has reached nearly unattainable heights. For example, he was the first undisputed champion, and is a record nine-time WWE Intercontinental Champion.

In 2018 Jericho sporadically appeared for WWE, notably in the Royal Rumble and Greatest Royal Rumble matches. However, in October Jericho conducted his Rock N Rager Cruise.

With the success of his work with NJPW, and his cruise tour, Jericho has become unpredictable. However, his unpredictability has vastly improved entertainment value for wrestling fans.

During the AEW Rally, Jericho confirmed his contract with the promotion. He would be a brilliant option to become their inaugural champion.

Nevertheless, his extensive knowledge as a champion or not is lucrative for AEW. Ultimately there are very few who could match Jericho's experience, he has been successful in wrestling, music, and broadcasting.

#1 Hangman Adam Page

Adam Page is a rising star WWE has sought to sign in recent years. Between 2011-2018, Page performed with ROH, eventually obtaining the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship. Since 2016, Page additionally worked for NJPW. Throughout his extensive tenure, he earned a position within Bullet Club, and later The Elite.

During the AEW Rally recently, Page made his intentions clear. He targeted the AEW Championship (yet to be introduced). However, would be interrupted by fellow performer, Pac.

Following a brief and intense showdown, AEW fans were left wanting more. It seems Page and Pac will battle to determine the inaugural champion.

Adam Page is an excellent performer, and has proven his worth. When reviewing his character, he is similar to the late Brian Pillman with regards in-ring credentials and appearance.

However, Page offers way more benefits to fans and wrestling promotions. He is the perfect option for AEW to crown their first champion.
