Jon Moxley gained a lot of success during his time in WWE as Dean Ambrose, as he portrayed a very unstable character. His gimmick worked extremely well and made people believe in his lunacy. However, that took its toll as WWE wanted him to do things which he did not approve of, and that led to him walking away from the company.

He’s revealed that he got hooked on to wrestling due to one of the biggest legends in the sport. He discovered ECW, and soon Bret Hart became his favorite wrestler. Even though his gimmick is nowhere similar to The Hitman’s, he idolized Hart to a great extent.

In 2015, Moxley revealed that he “was never a Hulkamaniac” when growing up. Instead, he liked Bret Hart for the reason that “he was the realistic, relatable guy” among a “giant litany of bullies” and that Hart always found a way “to outsmart them, out trick them, outlast them.”

Moxley also revealed that Bret Hart’s on-screen character helped him stay focused and get through his rough upbringing to reach the level he is at today.
