Cody Rhodes has finally turned his back on Kenny Omega
Cody Rhodes has finally turned his back on Kenny Omega

What’s the story?

Following the shocking turn of events earlier today in Sapporo, ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes has finally opened up about the dissension that took place within the Bullet Club during today’s NJPW: New Beginning event.

In case you didn’t know…

On Day 2 of NJPW: New Beginning in Sapporo, Kenny Omega defended the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship against "Switchblade" Jay White. Having previously wrestled each other in 2016, this was basically a rematch between the two men as Omega and White put up an instant classic.

The match ended in Jay's favour as he was declared the winner of the match and became the new IWGP US Heavyweight Champion.

Following White's win, 'Switchblade" was confronted by Omega's fellow Bullet Club stablemate Hangman Page who wanted a shot at the US Title, but, instead, Omega rightfully decided to hand the championship to Jay White as he then engaged in an intense argument with Page.

Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks quickly ran down the ring, however, and after what appeared to be a heated argument, a frustrated Kenny Omega decided to shove Matt Jackson, who then left the scene with his brother Nick.

Omega would eventually exchange a handshake with Hangman Page and Cody Rhodes and the situation seemed to have cooled down a bit, however, as Omega was on his way out of the ring, Rhodes decided to attack the BC leader (now former) with a Cross Rhodes.

Rhodes, Page, along with Marty Scurll then proceeded to brutally assault Omega with a steel chair before Omega's former tag team partner Kota Ibushi made the save and reunited the Golden Lovers in the process.

The heart of the matter

Despite Cody betraying Omega, there still seems to be a huge confusion within the Bullet Club regarding Omega's current status with the group because as we earlier noted, the likes of Chase Owens, Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga-- often regarded as the OG BC-- were nowhere to be found on the scene today in Sapporo. Whereas, on the other hand, Cody Rhodes has not just yet been declared as the new leader of the Biz Cliz.

However, one thing is for sure that following his actions earlier today, Cody has now certainly made it clear that he wants to sit at the top of the realm in the Bullet Club and his following tweet pretty much confirms the fact that "The American Nightmare" now wants to take over the charge from Kenny Omega.

What's next?

As of right now, we can't confirm any further news regarding this uncertain situation surrounding the Bullet Club. However, as noted during last year's G1 Climax tournament, current Never Openweight Six-man Tag Team Champion Tama Tonga also had his fair share of issues with Omega and The Elite, which could possibly mean that this is definitely Omega's exit ticket from the Bullet Club.

Author's Take

I believe that following today's dissension in the Bullet Club we could potentially witness some amazing matches in the near future, such as Golden Lovers vs The Young Bucks, Hangman Page vs Kenny Omega, and the much-anticipated Kenny Omega vs Cody Rhodes match.

Also, I think that Cody's actions will not play too well with other Bullet Club members, the likes of Tama Tonga and Fale that is, and this move could possibly end up haunting the remaining members of The Elite subgroup and we might potentially see the Bullet Club originals take over the group once again by kicking out the remaining Elite members.
