What’s the story?

IWGP US Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega recently spoke with New Japan Pro Wrestling and discussed his upcoming clash against Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4.

Omega declared, "If I have to fight for my dream to make New Japan worldwide, if I have to fight to prove that ‘Kenny Omega Style’ truly is the best on the planet, beating you at your own game, Chris (Jericho), is all I can do."

In case you didn’t know…

During last year’s NJPW: Power Struggle event, the entire wrestling world witnessed a historic moment as former WWE World Champion Chris Jericho made his return to the promotion for the first time in decades.

Jericho, who has previously worked for NJPW during the 90s, challenged Bullet Club leader and the first ever IWGP US Champion Kenny Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Omega and Jericho also had their first face-to-face in-ring meeting during the 2017 World Tag League when Jericho blindsided Omega and brutally assaulted the leader of The Elite.

The heart of the matter

During his interview with NJPW, Omega talked about a host of topics including his WK 12 opponent Chris Jericho, his match against Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11 and more.

Omega said that Jericho has now unlocked a new side of him following the latter's brutal assault on him. Omega claimed that he is going to expand his range come January 4 and the fans will not be seeing the athletic side of 'The Cleaner' and instead will be going to witness a man who is willing to bleed, fight and die in order to achieve his dream of changing the wrestling world.

Omega also stated that he has always been someone who cannot be bought and cannot be reasoned with. The IWGP US Champion also affirmed that his dreams are way bigger than money as well as fame.

What’s next?

Omega and Jericho will now clash at the Wrestle Kingdom 12 show on Thursday. The two stars from Canada will look to steal the show in the co-main event of the Tokyo Dome show.

Author's take

Jericho is capable of pulling off an upset win over Kenny Omega. Having said that, the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion also possesses the ability to respond in kind.
