Pro wrestlers you didn't know were still active

Greg Valentine continues to perform on the independent circuit

Remember John Morrison? One sport that really draws able-bodied men from all over the world has got to be wrestling. I mean come on; the attraction of earning big bucks by knocking each other’s heads about is just too good to turn down. However, fame is never a forever thing and those wrestlers who made their bones on WWE or any other equally successful format have to fade out of the limelight sometime or the other. But giving up something that has been part of their lives for so many years can be excruciatingly difficult, which is why many seasoned wrestlers ply their trade in other lesser known franchises. Keeping that in mind let’s take a look at 10 wrestlers you didn’t know were still active.

George Murdoch aka Brodus Clay forged a decent career on WWE before the franchise made hash of his character before releasing him in 2014. Clay then took a step-down and joined TNA which is almost obscurity compared to his career on wrestling’s top entertainment franchise.

#7 The Honky Tonk Man

Roy Wayne Farris aka Honky Tonk Man is another old school wrestler who’s still actively plying his trade. After initially starting out with Memphis Wrestling, where he achieved little fame, Farris debuted on WWF in 1986 under the name Honky Tonk Man.

Farris had a successful run on WWF and even held on to the Intercontinental Championship for the longest time. After plenty of titles with various franchises, Farris faded out of the spotlight before resurfacing on the independent circuit in 2000 where he continues to wrestle besides making appearances at autograph signing sessions.

#6 Chavo Guerrero

Maria was released from her contract in 2011 but continues a wrestling career with Ring Of Honour where she serves as a valet to real life husband Michael Bennett.

Although Bennett wrestles on the independent circuit many think he’s good enough for WWE. If and when Bennett wins a contract with WWE his wife will surely follow, casting her into the spotlight once more. The couple are currently in TNA under ‘The Miracle’ moniker.

#3 John Morrison

John Morrison has been one of Lucha Underground’s biggest star

Once touted as a promising talent, Morrison burst onto the wrestling scene after winning Tough Enough III which awarded him a WWE developmental contract. Morrison took no time to display his talent and soon formed an enviable tag team partnership with the Miz, with the duo winning the World Tag Team Championship on two separate occasions.

Morrison achieved some solo success too and won the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice along with the ECW World Championship. However, Morrison could never force his way into WrestleMania, and soon left WWE back in 2011.

Many thought Morrison would join WWE’s arch rival TNA, but the 35-year-old instead wrestled independently for awhile before joining Lucha Underground where he has achieved success.

#2 Bob Armstrong

Bob Armstrong is the oldest active wrestler

Legendary wrestler Bob Armstrong just can’t stay away from the ring and holds the record for being the oldest wrestler still active at the age of 75. Armstrong made his wrestling debut back in 1962 soon after completing his military service and quickly forged a name for himself.

It took no time for the National Wrestling Alliance to recognize his talent and Armstrong took no time to attain fame all over the United States. At the peak of his career, Armstrong toured all over the world, most notably Japan and Korea before going into semi-retirement in the mid-'90s.

After a little less than a decade, Armstrong resurfaced on TNA, participating in a memorable storyline with his son Brian before making sporadic appearances once again. Armstrong is still active on Combat Sports Pro, and is currently Chairman of the Combat Committee.

#1 Jeff Jarrett

Hugely successful on the WCW and WWF franchises back in the ‘90s, Jarrett never made his way back into WWF’s new incarnation WWE due to contract disputes traced back to 1999.

However, Jarrett forged his own name with TNA and was a part of many storylines and feud, the one with Kurt Angle being the most notable. However after dropping out from the spotlight for a while, Jarrett is set to make a comeback with Global Force Wrestling – considered as a clone of WCW and will attempt to reach his glory days again with GFW.
