5 Reasons why our Parents won't let us watch WWE

Being a proud WWE fan isnt one of the easiest tasks on the world. There are many things that we go through from bad booking to no coverage. But one of the most important problems that we face are our parents. From the many restrictions and guidance that they give to us, "Do not watch wrestling" is quite arguably the most painful one. They are most probably stuck in the small world of filled with the misconceptions about professional wrestling and thats why we are constantly being reminded about how bad it is to watch wrestling. So here is a look at some of those reasons why our parents always ask us to stay away from the television when WWE comes on.

#5 They think that its real

Wrestling is fake, period. The risks and moves the wrestlers take in the ring may be real but it’s all part of the game plan.

And that’s a point that most of our parents miss. What they are seeing is just two grown men bashing and throwing each other around. The fact that we are addicted to seeing people beat each other will be something which haunts our parents for sure.

They are not aware of the storylines that it has, they don’t know the emotions it has, they don’t see the underdogs - in their eyes it’s just a plain old fight that usually ends up with someone getting arrested.

The wrestlers deserves credit for putting their body on the line but our parents clearly needs to realize that it’s all part of the big plan.

#4 They think that WWE wrestlers set a bad example

There is this man who eats worms, then there is this man who used to throw his middle finger up, there is someone else who walks in the dark and there are women dressed in skimpy outfits.

Do our parents need anything more to be worried about? Every parent wants their children to grow up, be mature and make a good public image. But seeing such things and getting influenced is something that they are worried about.

However, what they don’t see are the things that these superstars do off the screen. Undertaker hangs out with the troops, monster Kane visits kids in hospitals and some others try and stop bullying among children.

The real life persona of the wrestlers often stays a mystery to our parents and they eventually conclude that we should watch more of Gandhi or Nelson Mandela.

#3 We try it at home or at school

This one is a bit of our fault actually. Despite the likes of John Cena, Kofi Kingston and many more saying, “We WWE performers are professionally trained performers and the moves we do in the ring takes years of practice to prefect and to do safely. So don’t try this at home or at school”, we still go off the limit and pull of some stunts.

We try putting on some holds or submissions on our siblings and even make them tap out. Bashing with card boards and throwing someone on to the bed all are part of the things we did to recreate the magic from the squared circle.

What we didn’t realize is that, Mick Foley lost his ear while wrestling, Stone Cold broke his neck, Brock Lesnar almost died. None of the parents want something like that happening to their children and it’s a concern that has all the rights to restrict us.

#2 Steroid scandals

Though our parents will not be aware of the Kayfabe storylines or plots, one thing that they are well aware about is the steroid scandals in wrestling.

The Chris Benoit case being the most notable one from the lot makes things worse. He is someone who murdered his family and committed suicide due to the effects of drug usage and he apparently was a big name in the wrestling business as well. It literally made our parents conclude that all the wrestlers use a handful of drugs to keep their muscles bulge and enhance their performance.

They are not aware what went down after the Benoit incident and how strict WWE is on their wellness policy. It’s all things that an outsider is not aware of and for them even John Cena is a drug king.

#1 Misconception that we are still in the Attitude Era

Attitude Era is very nostalgic when it comes to a WWE fan. We got to see the best wrestling, the best stars and great storylines.

However, what the elders saw was just a lot of blood and eye candy. There were wrestlers hitting each other with chairs, throwing each other off the top of a cage, jumping off ladders, and there were people who made women strip down in front of everyone.

All this was entertainment for us, but not so for our parents. And to make things worse, they still think that WWE is like that. They might not be aware of the PG era and the changes which came to the product.

And this quite arguably is the biggest misconception why our parents won’t let us watch WWE in peace.
