5 things that the WWE fans should know about Prince Devitt

Triple H’s love for independent wrestling has given the WWE a roster that is rich of Indy darlings. Names like Cesaro, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose made it big in the WWE after being snatched from the Indy scene.Witnessing the success of these names, the company bought in a new array of superstars who are currently assigned to the NXT roster. And one in particular is Prince Devitt. The Irish born superstar has been renamed as Finn Balor in the WWE and comes with a truck load of experience in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The NXT debut he made looked more than promising and here is a look at some things that the fans should know about him.

#5 He has a love for body paints

Superstars who use body paints aren’t a rare scene in the wrestling business. Names ranging from Sting to Stardust have been using the extra coat before they come into the ring but Prince Devitt was someone who took it to the next levels.

Almost all this body paints were inspired from various comic characters that the fans were familiar through films and other media.

One night he would come into the ring as Venom in Spiderman while on the next day he would be either Joker or Bane from Batman.

And the best part about all these was, he showed his quality in between the ropes no matter which body paint he was wearing. There is no news about him wearing the paint in WWE but the fans would be praying for the same to happen.

#4 His favorite wrestlers

They say that one can judge a person by knowing who his favorite wrestler is. And growing up in Ireland, Devitt also had his favorites when it came to the sport.

The British Bulldogs consisting of Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith was one of Devitt’s favorites tag teams while he also had a soft corner for Rick Rude.

However, one of those superstars that inspired him heavily was Shawn Michaels. if we want Devitt closely, some traits of Michaels can be seen here and there which is only natural.

Apart from these names, he was also a fan of Mr. Perfect, Koko B. Ware and Savio Vega. Devitt also said about his respect to current WWE superstars on various occasions meaning that he would be getting a positive reaction from the locker room.

#3 The reason behind the name

Any big independent wrestler coming into WWE undergoes a name change as Vince McMahon has this hobby of copyrighting. Devitt wasn’t spared from this as well when he was renamed as Finn Balor in NXT.

There were a lot of criticism about Devitt’s name but apparently he chose the name himself. Hailing from Ireland, Devitt made good use of the Irish language to carve out a name that had a good meaning.

The first part of the name Finn, comes from the Irish and means Warrior while the latter part of the name, Balor, is from the Irish Mythology.

Balor was the chief of a demonic race that threatened the people of Ireland which might also hint that he will be a heel once he comes into the main roster.

#2 Most of his moves would be banned in WWE

WWE entering the PG era not only shut the door in the face of nostalgic fans, it also proved to be a big blow for a portion of the WWE Universe that loved to see some hard hitting wrestling action.

Transforming from the independent scene, where such a style is encouraged, to WWE where you are supposed to put a tab on it, would be a daunting task for even the best superstars.

NXT serves the purpose of cutting out this list of moves and unfortunately for the WWE fans, they might not get to see the best moves of Devitt due to this policy by the WWE.

Moves like the brainbuster, vertical drop DDT, Bloody Sunday and some more would be taken away from his arsenal while the foot stomp was lucky enough to escape the cut.

#1 His direction in NXT

One of the most concerning things for the fans whenever an independent wrestler is signed to WWE is the way in which he or she would be booked in the promotion.

Some superstars got the right amount of push while other fell flat on the ground. Despite coming in with a lot of experience, Devitt being put into development gave rise to similar concerns among fans who know how good he was.

However, his direction in NXT suggests a different story. In his debut in the developmental territory, Devitt was paired with Kenta as the duo took out Ascension. Now Ascension was a team that dominated the division for nearly two years and the team of Kenta and Devitt taking them out makes it a clear message.

The main roster tag team division might be kicked hard by this team as they are sure to be a force to reckon with if this is for the long run.
