#10 Carlos Santillana - 186 goals

No.10 on the list is none other than former Real Madrid striker Carlos Santillana. Renowned for his heading ability despite being shorter than 6 ft, Santillana was an explosive striker who is still regarded as one of the best strikers in the history of Spanish football.

Santillana scored 186 goals in 461 appearances. He retired in 1988 after playing for 17 years at the Bernabeu.

#9 Edmundo Suarez - 195 goals

No.9 on the list is Valencia CF legend, Edmundo Suarez. In a 11-year stint with Valencia and a further one year with CD Alcoyano, Suarez scored 195 goals in 231 appearances.

The main feature of his game was his physical strength and high goal scoring ratio which stands at 0.84. Although his career was affected by the civil war, he still managed an excellent career.

#8 Pahino - 210 goals

Manuel Fernandez Fernandez, better known as Pahino, was a Galician striker who played in the La Liga during the 1940s and 1950s. Playing for Celta de Vigo, Real Madrid and Deportivo across his 14-year long career, Pahino was a prolific goal scorer and a proven match winner.

He won two Pichichi awards, one each at Celta de Vigo and Real Madrid. With 210 goals in 278 appearances, Pahino stands eighth on the list of all-time top scorers in the La Liga.

#7 Quini - 219 goals

Enrique Castro González, better known as Quini is seventh on the list of all-time top scorers in the La Liga. He played for Barcelona and Sporting Gijon for a better part of his career, Quini won seven Pichichi Trophies.

He was also awarded the Don Balon Award for best Spanish player in 1979. He is regarded as one of the best strikers with 219 goals in the La Liga.

#6 Cesar Rodriguez - 223 goals

In a career spanning over two decades, Cesar Rodriguez managed to score 223 goals in the La Liga. A majority of his career was at Barcelona and the remaining was spent at Elche and two other clubs.

Playing in the years affected by the World War, Cesar Rodriguez was a mainstay of the legendary Barcelona team that won five trophies in the 1951-52 season.

#5 Alfredo di Stefano - 227 goals

Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Alfredo Di Stefano was an extraordinarily gifted player who constituted the foundation of Real Madrid’s illustrious past.

Helping the club to five consecutive European triumphs, Di Stefano stands as a true legend of the game. With 227 goals in 329 appearances, Di Stefano stands fifth in the list.

#4 Raul Gonzalez - 228 goals

Raul was the distinct Madridsta in a bevy of Galacticos. Perhaps, the greatest player to have ever graduated from the Castilla, Raul Gonzalez still stands as one of the greatest strikers to have played the game.

Raul signified everything that was good about football. Raul was the most inspirational leader a team could possess. But above all, he was a striker who loved to score goals.

And this thirst for goals was never quenched as he stands fourth on the list with 228 goals in 550 appearances.

#3 Hugo Sanchez - 234 goals

When Real Madrid sign a player from Atletico, you know he is special. And Hugo Sanchez was a truly special player and an icon of the Real Madrid team in the 80s. Being a gymnast in his early life, Sanchez was renowned for his acrobatic ability on the field which mainly surfaced in his celebrations where he performed a somersault after each goal.

With 234 goals in the La liga, he stands third in the list ahead of players like Raul and Di Stefano.

#2 Lionel Messi - 248 goals*

Maybe the greatest player of this generation, Leo Messi stands second in the list of top scorers in the La Liga. He has been playing at Barcelona since the age of 13 and made his debut at the age of 17.

Leading the Barcelona side in the last few years, Messi has been the most important player at Camp Nou. With a record four Ballon d’Ors to his name and 248 goals in the La Liga, Messi is just nine goals shy of topping the list.

#1 Telmo Zarra - 251 goals

He was perhaps the greatest goal scorer to have ever played in the La Liga. Playing at Atletic Bilbao for 15 years, Zarra scored 251 goals in the La Liga and remains the highest scorer till date.

He was known for his explosive style of play along with a deadly eye for goal which made him a lethal opponent for any defender.

Although he won the La Liga just once, he won the Pichichi award six times while playing for Bilbao. While he stands atop now, it should only be a matter of time before Messi overtakes him.
