Popular TV series and the screen adaptation of George RR Martin’s book ‘A song of Fire & Ice’, Game of Thrones, is all set to premiere the first episode of its fifth season.Fans worldwide are waiting in anticipation to see what is in store for the latest season of the show and as a part of the build up to the next episode, we bring you ten personalities from football that resemble game of thrones characters either physically or share similar character traits.
#1 Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, Sandro Raniere and Khal Drogo
We’ve got two footballers who resemble the ruthless Khal Drogo. The first one is the former Roma, Southampton and Internazionale striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo. Osvaldo’s long hair, thick eyebrows and stylish beard give him an uncanny resemblance to the Game of Thrones character Khal Drogo.
The second footballer looks similar to Drogo is former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Raniere. Raniere doesn’t have long hair like the Game of Thrones character, but his stylish beard and thick eyebrows is similar to that of Drogo.
#2 Owen Hargreaves and Robb Stark
Many people may have forgotten the former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves, but Game of Thrones character Robb Stark reminded many of us of Hargreaves.
The duo’s poorly kept curly hair and stubble almost makes them look like long lost brothers. Also the longevity of Robb Stark was as short as Hargreaves Manchester City career.
#3 Miranda, Kieran Gibbs and Grey Worm
Once again we have two football players resembling the same Game of Thrones character.
Remember the leader of the unsullied? They had a hairless leader who had trouble smiling and goes by the name Grey Worm.
Atletico Madrid’s Miranda and Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs look very much like Grey Worm. Also going by Andre Marriner’s case of mistaken identity, we could also say that Alex Oxlade Chamberlain looks similar to Grey Worm.
#4 Xabi Alonso and Jorah Mormont
Jorah Mormont possesses Xabi Alonso’s blonde stubble and that serious looking face with a glance that can strike fear, but of course we all know where Mormont’s eyes were fixed on, while Xabi Alonso’s must have been fixed on a player making a run 40 or 50 yards away from him.
Had Mormont been a little younger, then maybe the resemblance could have been better and Khaleesi would have liked him the way he wanted her to. Sorry Ser Jorah!
#5 Julian Draxler and Podrick Payne
When I first saw Podrick Payne on Game of Thrones, I asked myself, “what is German International Julian Draxler is doing in the show?”
Their innocent looking & clean shaven face, the chubby cheeks, their nose and even hair colour is similar. Podrick is a character that is very difficult for anyone to hate and Draxler is a player who has the same trait.
#6 Herve Renard and Jamie Lannister
Herve Renard is the manager of Ivory Coast National team and a two time winner of the African Cup of Nations as a manager. Renard’s resemblance with Jamie Lannister is pretty evident. The way they part their hair, the colour of their hair and the cold look in their eyes are almost ditto.
#7 Brek Shea and Brienne of Tarth
Former Stoke City player, Brek Shea’s gender is different from that of Brienne of Tarth, but they still look similar and it’s probably because of the fringe they both have.
If Shea happens to come across this picture, then I am pretty sure that he will be paying his hair stylist a visit.
#8 Diego Lugano and Tyrion Lannister
Former Uruguayan captain Diego Lugano resembles one of the most popular characters on the show, Tyrion Lannister.
To be honest, if Lugano was a dwarf, then he would look like Peter Dinklage’s (the man who plays Tyrion) brother.
#9 Petyr Baelish and Jose Mourinho
This comparison is based on the character traits possessed by the two people in question.
Jose Mourinho and Petyr Baelish are both people who gave themselves a unique identity. Mourinho called himself the special one; while Baelish created a house for himself and named it house Baelish.
They are both extremely clever and can even be called cunning. Their methods may not go well with many people and may even draw criticism and hate, but such things matter very little to these men. But most importantly, no matter how they get their job done, they are both very successful at what they do more often than not.
I am pretty sure that it is difficult to argue that Mourinho and Lord Baelish have similar characters.
#10 Daario Naharis and Zlatan Ibarhimovic
Daario Naharis and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both possess long hair, but their comparison is also made because of their characters.
Naharis and Zlatan are both openly arrogant when they say something and extrude extreme confidence in thyself, but they still do enough and more to earn the fondness and applause of most people.
They are both flamboyant characters with extremely stylish and effective methods of execution. In case of Zlatan it’s on the ball while in the case of Naharis, it is his battle skills.
No matter how arrogant they may sound, you just can’t hate them.
