Be it scoring the highest number of goals in the Premier League in spite of missing the first few games, or playing with an injury to score twice against England last week- Luis Suarez is no doubt among the elite in world football today. However, the Uruguay and Liverpool striker has caused his fair share of controversies in the past, and continues to do so, which is evident from the incident earlier today against Uruguays match against Italy. Heres a look at the top controversies Luis Suarez has caused.

#5 Ghana vs Uruguay, 2010 World Cup Quarter Final

The quarter final was a gritty affair, with scores level at 1-1 late into the second period of extra time. He blocked a header with his hands, which would otherwise have been a winner. Although he got a straight red, Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty that was awarded to Ghana. The match went to a penalty shootout and Ghana lost.

Suarez said after the match, "I made the save of the tournament." He claimed that he was acting out of instinct, and he would gladly do it again if it helped his team win.

#4 Otman Bakkal Bite, PSV, November 2010

Prior to joining Liverpool, Suarez had gained his fair share of controversies. In a match against PSV a few months after the World Cup incident Rasmus Lindgren of Ajax received a red card, Bakkal stamped on Suarez's foot, which led Suarez to bite the play. The referee, surprisingly missed the bite.

Suarez blamed the incident on something else entirely. No, I do not regret what happened. Normally I always keep calm but I didnt Im a little tired. This week I had to travel a lot.

I didnt know travelling sparked cannibalistic feelings! This act earned him the title, Cannibal of Ajax.

Ajax handed Suarez a two game ban, but the Eredivisie extended it to seven matches in total.

#3 Racially Abusing Patrice Evra, Manchester United, October 2011

In October 2011, Patrice Evra accused Suarez of racially abusing him. The FA opened up an investigation and found him guilty of using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour contrary to FA rules. He was handed a 40000 fine and a seven match ban.

As if that was not enough, in the reverse fixture, Suarez refused to shake Evras hand in the pre-match handshakes. He was later forced to apologize, but the damage had been done.

#2 Branislav Ivanovic Bite, Chelsea, April 2013

During a Premier League match between Chelsea and Liverpool, Suarez bit Branislav Ivanovic on the arm, which left the defender surprised. Surprisingly, the referee or his assistants missed the incident, and Suarez went on to score the equalizer late into the match.

He was fined by his club Liverpool and later handed an eight match ban by the FA. He came back strong and finished the Premier League top scorer next season, despite missing the first few matches because of the ban.

#1 Giorgio Chiellini Bite, Italy, World Cup 2014 Group Stages

One year of being subtle and it seems Suarez is having cannibalistic tendencies again. After Italy were down to 10 men, Suarez appeared to bite Chiellini in an off the ball incident that left the defender protesting. The referee and his assistants, missed the incident surprisingly and Uruguay scored just minutes later. Italy were eliminated from the world cup as a result of the loss, second time in a row from the group stages.

FIFA will surely have something to say regarding this. How many matches will he miss? Will Cavani suffice for Uruguay? Only time will tell...
