Performance Ratings: Chelsea's 2014-15 summer signings

Loic Remy

The January transfer window has begun, clubs are looking for players to bolster their squads and get victories, some for glory and others for survival. Chelsea Football Club is no exception to this. With all the talk of the quadruple and a historical season for them, the Blues are looking for quality players. With the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, John Terry, Gary Cahill in their squad, Chelsea were already a strong side. The only need was that of a prolific striker because of Fernando Torres’ inability to find the back of the net and Demba Ba being underused. Therefore the summer was an important time for Chelsea to act. They bought in some players and they were expected to make it big, and boy they delivered. These players have been vital for the healthy position that Chelsea currently find themselves in. It is hoped that the rich vein of form of these players will continue.Their performances so far are listed below:-

#4 Loic Remy

Loic Remy

The former QPR man is the third choice striker for his manager after Costa and Drogba, but he has delivered whenever it was asked of him. Specially during Costa’s injury, he has scored crucial goals which proves that he was a good choice for Chelsea. With his knack of producing good performances when needed he could be vital to Chelsea’s season, especially in the other competitions.

It is hoped by the fans that he does not go the Daniel Sturridge or the Romelu Lukaku way, who proved to be wastes for the Blues. Remy believes that the Londoners can win the quadruple and is ready to give it all for the team. He has already told his manager of his desire for playing against Newcastle. It shows his hunger for performing more and also hints at unity in the side. Remy has a lot to offer and he will surely be an impact player for Chelsea.

#3 Filipe Luis

Filipe Luis

The former Atletico left-back has rarely got game-time but whenever he has played he has excelled. His goal against Derby might be his only one, but it was nonetheless spectacular because it was from a free-kick from 25 yards. His work-rate has been exceptional judging from his performances in the matches against Manchester United where he started and against Southampton.

Cesar Azpilicueta might be the first choice left-back for Mourinho, but Luis has expressed no hatred and has worked for the team whenever needed. Luis has settled well in the Chelsea system under Mourinho and fills in the role with relative ease. That allows Branislav Ivanovic to be farther ahead in attack and his play in the flanks stops wingers from running away with the ball. A player with great potential, Luis could be an important factor in shaping Chelsea’s season.

#2 Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas

A selfless player who has continued from where he left off at Arsenal. His 18 assists this season bears testimony to the fact that his playmaking skills are second to none. Those Oh-so-beautiful long balls and his devastating free kick deliveries have tormented opposition defences and have been vital to Chelsea wins.

Be it his delightful unselfish dink to Andre Schurrle against Burnley or his long ball to Costa against Arsenal or his pass to Eden Hazard against Southampton, Fabregas has been a vital cog in the Chelsea machine. He also has the record of creating the most number of chances for Chelsea more than any other team in the league so far with 61 and the most number of passes completed with the number standing at 1563.

The most number of touches of the ball also belong to Fabregas with 1928. Fabregas has been a prolific attacking midfielder and also plays in defensive midfield when required. His skills will shape the second half of Chelsea’s season.

#1 Diego Costa

Diego Costa

The big muscular man, with 14 goals, has been a revelation in the Premier League. Although a bit rough at times, but still his lethal strikes and his goal-poaching ability have been a constant headache for defenders. The Brazil-born Spanish international arrived from Atletico Madrid this season, where he contributed 27 goals in their title-winning season on a transfer fee of 32 million pounds.

He is also known for his ball-possession ability and is only matched by Didier Drogba at this ability for a striker. He remains a potent force and if he could keep up this form of his then he will be vital to his team securing the PL title. Although an injury forced him out for a couple of games he has maintained his scoring touch. Goals against West Ham and Spurs are indicators of this. He is well on course for a possible golden boot and a championship medal around his neck.
