Top 5 Money in the Bank 2014 contenders

Extreme Rules might be the next pay-per-view offering that WWE has to offer, but skip a couple of steps and what we have in our hands will be something more important. In its young age, the Money in the bank briefcase has swirled some great impact in WWE that most of the winners went on to win the title with it. Though it may not be as big as winning the Royal Rumble, the Money in the bank certainly has its price in the company. And this year, since there is only one title to go for, the value of Money in the bank has doubled. The match sure promises to be an exciting affair, and here is a look at the possible men who could walk out with the briefcase in their hand.

#5 Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns might be one of the most obvious choices that might come up from the pot. The Shield’s break up has been stretched and stretched so far that they turned out to be the top faces of the company.

But WWE clearly has bigger plans for Reigns in particular and would seize any opportunity to let the fans know that he is set for the future.

WWE did it in Survivor Series and Royal Rumble but they didn’t leave a lasting impact. On the other hand, Reigns winning the Money in the bank contract could propel him right into the championship scene.

His teammates could also feel jealous about him winning the briefcase which could pave way for their breakup as well.

#4 Bad News Barrett

There are rumors making the rounds that the people in backstage, especially Vince McMahon are high on Barrett.

McMahon apparently loved the way Barrett delivered the bad news at the hall of fame ceremony and that might have been the reason for the push that he got after WrestleMania. Barrett found himself in the ring again and beating opponents for fun.

He is well placed to get his hands on the Intercontinental title, but it could only be the start for him. If the rumors are right, he could be on his way to reach the main event scene.

And the best way to do that would be to make him win the Money in the bank. Barrett bragging about winning the briefcase and teasing a cashing will be a treat to watch.

#3 Randy Orton

Though no one liked Orton’s reign as the unified champion, it has to be admitted that he hasn’t got a fair shot at the title which he lost without submitting or being pinned. It was Batista who actually tapped out at WrestleMania and Orton deserves a clean rematch.

But he was soon thrusted into the Evolution storyline and title seems like a long shot.

One thing that Triple H could do to compensate Orton will be to put him in the Money in the bank match and make sure he wins it.

If we call back, it was Orton’s Money in the Bank contract which kick started the whole Authority angle. He can’t have a similar impact his time around, but what Orton could do is start a one on one feud with Bryan.

The two have great chemistry and hasn’t had a long feud to show for that which makes is a great move.

#2 Cesaro

Cesaro winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania was the initiation of the push he was lined up for.

Cesaro then got Paul Heyman by his side while being ready to bury the relationship with Swagger. He was knocked out of the Intercontinental championship tournament and by the looks of it, he might be headed for a match with Swagger at Extreme Rules to end the feud.

And after Extreme Rules comes Money in the bank. It could be the next step for Cesaro as he has practically nothing left once he ends the Swagger feud.

He is one of the favorites to win the briefcase and with Heyman on his side; he may even win the title. Till then, brace your ears to hear “My client won the money in the bank.

#1 John Cena

Cena is currently involved in a high profile feud with Bray Wyatt. Though it is high profile, it still only finds mid card place when it comes to pay-per-views.

Fans might like the freshness of seeing Cena in the midcard, but it’s clearly not where he belongs. Cena is still the face of WWE and the company at one stage or the other is going to put him back into the title scene.

Another interesting aspect of this is that, Cena and Bryan has only faced once in a pay-per-view. Like Orton, Cena also hasn’t had a feud with Bryan to show off their chemistry.

So Cena winning the Money in the bank and letting Bryan know the place and time rather than a cheap shot could well be on the plans as it could open doors for the much awaited, Bryan- Cena feud.
