10 Real Life WWE relationships That did not work out

The wrestling business is clearly not the best place to have a relationship. Though there have been a lot of onscreen fairy tale relationships, in real life, it is an entirely different story. And when you are in a relationship with a person from the wrestling business itself, the chances of a break up are on an all-time high. There have been a plethora of such instances from the past and since we don’t have a special day like Valentine’s Day to celebrate breakups, let’s take some time off now and take a look at some of the real-life relationships that did not work out.

#14 Honourable Mention: CM Punk and Daffney

You are going to see a whole lot of CM Punk on the list, so counting is highly recommended. Punk and Daffney were romantically linked during Punks Ring of Honor days and the relationship came crashing down when he moved to OVW.

#13 Honourable Mention: CM Punk and Tracy Brooks

Tracy Brooks was another relationship that Punk had during his Ring of Honor days. And just like the previous one, this also ended after a short stint.

#12 Honourable Mention: Goldust and Terri Runnels

Goldust has had a lot of struggles in the past with his addictions and unfortunately, his marriage with Terri Runnels happened during this period. The relationship went through some bumpy rides due to the same and the duo decided to divorce in 1999, six years after their marriage.

#11 Okay, the last Honourable Mention: Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson

The only intention of this slide is to remind you a few things. First of all, we all miss Torrie Wilson. Secondly, there was a great cruiserweight wrestler called Billy Kidman and thirdly, Kidman was one lucky guy. Torrie and Kidman married back in 2003 and filed for divorce three years later. Both of them did not go public about the reason for this break up, which is always a great thing to do.

#10 CM Punk and Maria

After his Ring of Honor run, Punk was signed up by WWE. He started off his WWE career in the developmental territory OVW, and just like his Ring of Honor days, Punk was lucky with the girls. Just months after his debut in OVW, Punk was involved in a relationship with Maria Kanellis, who was an interviewer back then.

The two were known to be a great pair altogether and you could find a lot of cute pictures of the couple all around the internet. The relationship, however, came to an end when Punk moved to the ECW brand just a year after his debut in OVW. Maria is currently married to Mike Bennett and the two have been in a relationship for the past seven years.

#9 Undertaker and Sara

Believe it or not, Michelle McCool is Undertaker’s third wife. The Phenom married his first wife, Jodi Lynn back in 1989 and the relationship came to an end in 1999. A year later, Taker had his second marriage and this time it was Sara. After the marriage, Sara showed up in WWE as the onscreen wife of Undertaker as well.

Sara, however, was too possessive of her husband and created some problems backstage. One led to the other and the relationship ended in 2007. There were rumors of Taker being involved with Michelle after the divorce and the entire rumor turned out to be a true story when the two married in 2010.

#8 Steve Austin and Debra

This chapter of Steve Austin’s career is something that WWE would want you to forget. Just like Undertaker, Austin has had multiple marriages and Debra was his third wife. The wrestling couple married back in 2000 and it was a roller coaster relationship from the start itself.

In 2002, Steve Austin was arrested for domestic violence after Debra was found bruised by the police. Austin soon filed a divorce and it marked an end to their relationship. Debra later came out and said that Austin was abusing his physically under the influence of some substance. Austin refused to respond to the allegation and started a new life in 2009, where he married his fourth wife.

#7 CM Punk and Beth Phoenix

Let’s get back to the CM Punk tales shall we? After his memorable stints in Ring of Honor and OVW, Punk started a relationship with Beth Phoenix in 2011. Initially, the relationship was only considered as a wild rumor in the wrestling business, but Punk later confirmed that he was in a relationship with Beth.

Just like all the other relationships that Punk had, this one also came crashing down. However, unlike the previous ones, this time, Punk went public with his breakup. In an interview he attended, Punk called Beth a “Douche bag” and though Beth never responded to the mention, she was reportedly angry. Beth later moved on from this breakup and married WWE Superstar Edge (who is in the list by the way).

#6 CM Punk and Lita

Punk and Lita dated twice. To be precise, they dated before and after Punk’s relationship with Beth Phoenix. The first stint came back in 2009 and the end of this relationship was confirmed by Matt Hardy on 2010. And after Punk’s relationship with Beth came to an end, Punk started dating Lita once again in 2013.

This stint also didn’t have a happy ending and it was even shorter than the last time around as it stopped in 2013 itself. Punk married AJ Lee afterwards and there is a lot of irony around the marriage as Lita was AJ Lee’s role model during her young age. Keeping everything apart, Punk is one lucky guy indeed.

#5 Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth

Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth was one of the most celebrated couples back in the golden era. Savage and Elizabeth tied the knot in 1984 and just a year after, Elizabeth made her WWE debut as the manager of Savage. The pairing was an instant hit with the fans and WWE cashed in big time on the couple by starting to link their real life relationship into kayfabe storylines.

The dream run of Savage and Savage in real life came to an end in 1992, when the couple filed for a divorce. They did continue to their run as an onscreen couple, but the chemistry was already gone. Savage later married his longtime girlfriend Barbara Lynn Payne while Elizabeth had a relationship with Lex Luger before passing away in 2003.

#4 Matt Hardy and Lita

The relationship between Matt Hardy and Lita dates back to 1999, when they met in an independent wrestling show. They soon began dating eachother and after five years of sunshine and rainbows, Lita did someone which would have pissed off anyone.

She started having an affair with Matt’s friend Edge, and when Matt found out about the same, he was furious. Matt took his anger public and was fired from the WWE due to this. The company, however, rehired him afterwards and turned the whole fiasco into a storyline. It was stuff that blurred the kayfabe-reality lines and is still one of the greatest storylines pulled off by WWE after Attitude Era.

Matt is currently married to fellow wrestling Reby Sky.

#3 Edge and Lita

After the Matt Hardy chapter, Edge and Lita started acknowledging their relationship publically. Lita served as the onscreen manager of Edge throughout this period and the fans got to see some hot action whenever these two were together. And this includes the WWE championship winning sex celebration that the two had on live television.

This relationship did not last long as Lita started dating her fellow band member Shane Morton, just a year after her breakup with Matt. The Shane Morton – Lita chapter lasted the next two years after which Lita dated CM Punk. Edge meanwhile is currently married to Beth Phoenix and the two enjoy their time out from the wrestling business.

#2 Chris Benoit and Nancy Benoit

The story of Chris Benoit and Nancy Benoit is worthy of being a Hollywood film. Nancy was initially married to former WCW superstar Kevin Sullivan and was at the same time, the on screen valet of Benoit. The on screen relationship between Benoit and Nancy soon turned into an affair and Nancy filed divorce from Sullivan so that she could marry Benoit.

Nancy – Benoit relationship hit a roadblock in 2003 when Nancy filed for a divorce claiming that Benoit treated her in a cruel manner. The request however was pulled later and the pair apparently buried their hatchet. Four years later, the tragedy we all know about struck the Benoit family. A victim of the drug abuse, Chris murdered his wife and son before committing suicide.

#1 Triple H and Chyna

The break up between Triple H and Chyna is arguably, ‘The’ most influential one in WWE’s history. The duo started dating each other at some part of the late 90s and it was going all good until Triple H decided to cheat. While he was committed to Chyna, he sparked up an affair with Stephanie McMahon.

Chyna found out about this when she saw a love letter from Stephanie to Hunter and confronted Vince McMahon about the same. Vince apparently was aware of the relationship and Chyna was soon released by the company. Triple H and Stephanie went on to marry in 2003 while Chyna married wrestler Sean Waltman. If it wasn’t for this breakup, we wouldn’t have had Hunter on top of WWE at the moment.
