5 superstars better than Brock Lesnar who could have ended Undertaker's WrestleMania streak

WWE has experienced all kinds of changes through its long illustrious years. Superstars have emerged and retired, titles have changed hands and eras have seen different phases. But the one thing that remained constant throughout was the Undertaker's streak. This immortal feat of the Phenom has been described as one of the greatest achievement in entertainment's history. The magnitude of the number 21-0 speaks for itself. Every year different superstars have attempted to do the impossible and every time they have failed. With time passing by, the Undertaker established a ridiculous figure that saw him sitting at the top of the WWE food chain. This year he faced a different opponent in the form of Brock Lesnar. Although as intimidating as an opponent, the beast incarnated was not a different figure in terms of the outcome as he was predicted to be the 22nd victim for the Deadman. And then it was 21-1. In a matter of half an hour, Lesnar immortalised the Undertaker's legacy and wrote his name in WrestleMania's history. But was he the right man for the job? Maybe or maybe not based on an individual's perspective. Here we take a look at five past Undertaker's opponents who would have been better placed to break the streak

#1 Kane - WrestleMania 20

Kane was involved in two feuds against his brother in WrestleMania 14 and 20 respectively. The Brothers of Destruction had turned into brothers-in-arms on several previous occasions. But perhaps the love was completely lost among the two following 2003 Survivor Series.

Kane had buried his brother alive and was sure that The Undertaker was not coming back. Much to his shock the Undertaker appeared in his signature spine chilling entrance theme which was last seen in 1996. With Paul Bearer at his ringside, Undertaker defeated his brother with his signature Tombstone Pile Driver move and associated the record of 12-0 to his name.

#2 Randy Orton - WrestleMania 21

Before his Viper days and sucking up to the authority, Randy Orton had a cooler alias in the form of The Legend Killer. Being a third generation superstar, he was taken under the wing of Triple H and together with Batista and Ric Flair he was involved in one of WWE's memorable antagonist group known as The Evolution. He became the youngest ever World Heavyweight champion at the age of 24 and was tagged as the next 'big thing' in WWE.

After being involved in storylines where he defeated the likes of Mick Foley and disrespected several other veterans of the company, Orton decided to challenge the streak where his arrogant mind thought his tag was fit enough to end the Undertaker's streak which was standing 12-0 at that time.

The match labeled as "The Legend vs The Legend Killer" ended after Orton lost the match despite his father Cowboy Bob Orton's interference.

#3 Ric Flair - WrestleMania 18

Considered as one of the greatest superstar of all time, nature boy Ric Flair faced off Undertaker in a No Disqualification match at WrestleMania 18. The record 16 time World Heavyweight champion was seen as the first potential opponent who would break the momentum of Undertaker's victories since his WrestleMania debut.

At that point, those series of wins were considered as the beginning of something that would be important in defining the Phenom's legacy. The match was intensely contested with interference from Arn Anderson. But despite that Flair was pinned in the middle of the ring after he was Tombstoned by the Undertaker who saw his streak move into double figures.

#4 Triple H - WrestleMania 27

Shawn Michaels's former partner in crime Triple H, has squared off against the Undertaker more than any other superstar - on three occasions. The Game, who was a member of the controversial DX group, took on the responsibility of avenging his best buddy's failure.

The rematch at WrestleMania 28 was overly dramatic as suggested by many with Shawn Michaels involved as the guest referee. The match ended with Undertaker emerging victorious over Triple H before the three of them helped each other to get up on their and leave the arena together. But the initial match at the 27th edition was the one where fans perhaps sniffed the streak was finally about to see its end.

Hunter and the deadman battled in No Holds Barred match. It was a violent encounter between the two icons where Triple H ordered Taker to stay down after inflicting heavy blows with the sledgehammer. But Undertaker managed to pick up a close win after locking Hell's Gate onto The Game thus retaining his streak of 19-0 on the night.

#5 Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 26

If there was ever an opponent who was meant to break the streak of the Phenom, it had to be Mr. WrestleMania himself - Shawn Michaels. The show stopper who had the reputation of delivering on the grandest stage of all was deemed rightfully as the most deserving person to break Undertaker's unstoppable dominanace.

They squared off in two consecutive WrestleMania matches with the heart break kid losing on both occasions. The fans were treated to a glorious and unforgettable match at WrestleMania 25 which was awarded a slammy for being the greatest match in the event's history. At the slammy's, the audience demanded a rematch and WWE set up a perfect script for Shawn to avenge his defeat and retire from the business in style.

But the outcome was no different as he fell short yet again thus failing to take the credit of breaking the streak along with his departure.

#6 Honorable mention - Bray Wyatt

Should have Wyatt conquered the streak?

The new face of fear – as Bray Wyatt rightfully calls himself – is by far the most kayfabe thing about WWE after the Undertaker.

The similarities between the two in itself validates Wyatt’s case of conquering the streak. WWE dropped the ball on a promising angle, where Wyatt could have ended the streak at WrestleMania 30 and announce himself as the next representative from the dark side.

It would have been an apt passing of the torch moment, but as we are accustomed to it by now, WWE tends to screw things up, and this was no different.
