WWE Battleground 2014: 5 Matches that WWE should add to the pay-per-view

WWEs next pay-per-view venture, the Battleground might be still a long way away, but the company has already booked two big matches for the event. One will have the WWE World Heavyweight title on the line with John Cena facing three challengers while the second match will crown a new Intercontinental champion after Bad News Barrett was forced to vacate the title with a shoulder injury. The latter will be a battle royal which might include most of the mid card talents but there are certain names which also deserve a spot in the match card outside the battle royal. So here is a look at some of the matches that WWE should add to Battleground.

#5 Dolph Ziggler & Summer Rae vs. Fandango and Layla

Summer Rae and Layla have been fighting over Fandango for some time now. Though the feud had a lot of potential, WWE wasted the angle with some bad booking decisions.

However, recently Dolph Ziggler was introduced into the mix which broadens the situation. Ziggler and Summer had some great chemistry together which WWE couldn’t find with Adam Rose who they experimented at one point.

Also Ziggler is one of those wrestlers who deserve to have some storyline backing. He has been consistent for a long time and the company remaining blind on his situation might come to an end once he gets over Fandango and has Summer as his manager.

He could slowly be introduced back into the main event with buffer feuds like this giving the company another good talent in the place where he deserves to be.

#4 Usos vs. Stardust and Goldust vs. Wyatt Family

WWE’s tag team division is at one of its awkward situations right now and these three are the only teams that are capable of carrying the title around their waist.

At money in the Bank, the Usos and Wyatt Family faced off in a great match for the title which had all the flavors of a tag team bout. On the other hand, Goldust and Stardust have been aided by Cody Rhodes getting a new character.

They have the experience of being in the title picture and the latest incarnation makes the team more exciting. Triple threat tag team matches have always done the job for WWE and this could also be the first of a series of matches between the three teams over the title.

#3 Rusev vs. Jack Swagger

The long wait for Jack Swagger turning face was finally over when he stood up to Rusev and Lana who were taking some well-defined shots at the United states of America.

It might’ve come a bit late, but it’s a fresh change for Swagger and Zeb Colter who were being wasted after Cesaro broke the team. Rusev showed that he could deliver good matches if provided with a credible opponent and Swagger can fill that void well.

WWE decided to book Swagger strongly in the initial segment between the two which is a different approach to what the company had with Big E.

This is bound to make the match more interesting between the two and also the company could inject some momentum into Swagger even if he loses.

#2 AJ Lee vs. Paige

AJ Lee and Paige are two divas around which the WWE could rebuild their divas division. Back when AJ used to be champion, the problem that the creative team had was the lack of credible opponents for the champion.

It ended up with AJ beating the whole divas division in one night and WWE shortly gave Paige the title run. Paige was booked as an underdog instead of her trademark Anti-Diva gimmick and in absence of AJ it all fell apart as well.

However, right now, WWE has both the divas under the same roof which is sure to make the fans eager about the divas division.

This is one feud that the company could just push all the way to Summerslam and the curtain raiser could be held at Battleground with some great booking.

#1 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

In a roster that has the lights of established names like Randy Orton, John Cena and Triple H, its Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins who are having the most heated angle in the company.

Fueled by betrayal, these two men have been putting their bodies on line from the start of the angle and the Money in the bank match was the prime example of the limits they are willing to go.

All the company needs to do at Battleground will be to book the two men in some kind of gimmick match and let the fans enjoy. Also if they want to raise the stake further, it could be a hell in a cell match so as to avoid the Authority getting involved every now and then.

Seth Rollins can also put his Money in the Bank briefcase on the line and tease Ambrose winning it giving everyone a reality check on how valuable he is to the roster.
