WWE Battleground 2014: Early match card predictions for the pay-per-view

Money in the Bank belongs to the past now and like always as one pay-per-view concludes, the company start plotting plans to make the next one a big success.Battleground is not one of those pay-per-views that the fans see with high regard but at this stage the narratives would be enough to keep them at the edge of their seats.Since most of the results at Money in the bank werent that popular with the fans, the company would be having extra burden to pull off a great show. It might be early to predict the match card exactly, but here is a look at some of those matches which we could see at Battleground which will be a curtain raiser for SummerSlam.

#6 Paige vs. AJ Lee (Divas Title)

AJ Lee returning and winning the divas title was completely unexpected. The way in which she won the title wasn’t graceful but it sets the stage well for the two to battle it out once again.

The tables have apparently turned after AJ’s win meaning that Paige would now play a heel with her aggressive side there to be seen. Both superstars are also expected to get a lot of time on the microphone.

It’s one of the most anticipated feuds of the year and though the company botched the initial stage, they still has some time left to make things right. The good news would be that this feud might run all the way to SummerSlam since these two are divas that deserve to represent their division.

#5 Rusev vs. Jack Swagger

The Bulgarian Brute was supposed to celebrate his victory against Big E this week but instead ended up getting interfered by Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter.

Colter has been high on deporting the immigrants and it was just a matter of time before he reacted to all those anti-American promos which Lana and Rusev was pulling off. The angle makes more sense that the Big E one and puts Swagger back in the picture.

The fans also seemed excited about the fact that Swagger has turned face since it’s a refreshing change for the former world champion. He might not win the match against Rusev but Swagger will benefit from some good pay-per-view time.

#4 Battle Royal for Intercontinental championship

There arent many emotions other than sympathy from the fans when it comes to the situation of Bad News Barrett. After being restricted to the podium for most of last year, he was finally getting some spotlight which he deserved but badly injury has taken that away from Barrett.

Now that he was forced to vacate the title, the company has decided to conduct a battle royal to determine the new title holder.

The battle royal with most probably be packed with all the midcarders who would struggle to find a place in the pay-per-view match card otherwise.

Also there will be front runners like Cesaro, Bo Dallas and Dolph Ziggler with Miz being the probable surprise from the lot.

#3 Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt

The fans that follow NXT might be familiar with this setting, and for the main roster fans this is going to be a fresh feud between two names that excel on the microphone.

Jericho being put into a high profile feud directly shows the faith that the company has in him though he has been out for a long time. Bray Wyatt didn’t have anything bigger after Cena as well making Jericho the best choice.

The involvement of Erick Rowan and Luke Harper would be something which the company needs to keep an eye on as they were the ones which made Bray’s last feud look weak. Jericho’s ring rust will be another concern which will have to be overcome by the company.

#2 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins

The battle between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose is stealing all the limelight amidst all the other big angles that has been going on. Dean Ambrose has managed to stand out on his own while Seth Rollins winning the briefcase made the feud more intriguing.

WWE is sure to put Ambrose and Rollins in a match at Battleground and maybe adding the briefcase will raise the stakes further.

WWE should also start thinking about letting the two men fight it out without any interactions making a steel cage or hell in a cell the best stipulation.

Both superstars proved the limits which they could travel to at Money in the bank and a one on one match would let the two flourish especially under the pay-per-view spotlight.

#1 Kane vs. John Cena vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton (WWE World Heavyweight title)

There aren’t many explanations why names like Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Cesaro didn’t get a shot at the title while Orton and Reigns did but they being involved in the Authority angle would serve the purpose.

Kane will be main eventing another pay-per-view this year making it a great twelve months for the big red monster though he hasn’t won many matches. Cena on the other hand will have to fight three men and the biased crowd to retain the title.

The real story however would be the friction that Roman Reigns has with the Authority. Hunter will be doing everything in his power to let Randy Orton win the match. Also Seth Rollins lurking around the corner with the briefcase makes the match more interesting.
