WWE Battleground 2014: Predictions for every championship and possible challengers

The section of WWE Universe which love to see the titles change hand every once in a while wasnt treated to the core at Money in the bank. Apart from John Cena being crowned as the new WWE World Heavyweight champion, there werent much activity when it came to the other titles.The Usos retained their titles against Wyatt Family while Paige did the same against Naomi. The US and Intercontinental title didnt even get a place in the match card which adds some sort of pressure on the company to have more title matches at Battleground.Superstars who hold the gold at Battleground will be the one who that will surely get a place in the SummerSlam match card, so here is a look at the chances of all the champions and the possible opponents for them.

#5 Divas Title

The situation regarding Divas title was getting stale as Paige was heading the same direction which AJ Lee did during her previous reign as champion. She was just tearing down inferior opponents with predictable outcomes which didn’t grab the attention of WWE Universe.

However, now that AJ has returned, it’s a feud between two divas who match equally on all aspects. This is one of those feuds which are bound to entertain the fans and give them some good title exchanges.

They are sure to face off at Battleground and since AJ has just won her title, she could just retain it for the time being. There isn’t any other good challenge for AJ in the roster and even if the company finds someone, the title will be staying with the champion.

Prediction: AJ Lee retains

Possible Opponent: Paige

#4 United States title

After a brief stint in the WWE title picture, Sheamus will be seen concentrating on the United States title at Battleground. Ever since he won the title, Sheamus has been out there to prove that he is a fighting champion.

And this might be the reason why WWE let him issue a challenge after he lost out the ladder match at Money in the bank. Alberto Del Rio was the one who answered the challenge and the two even had a match at SmackDown which Sheamus won.

Del Rio and Sheamus are two superstars that have a lot of history between them and this has always managed to give the fans some solid matches.

Its might turn out to be a feud which looks repetitive, but it will be the best option for both the superstars even though Del Rio is sure to walk out of the match empty handed.

Prediction: Sheamus retains

Possible opponent: Alberto Del Rio

#3 Intercontinental title

Bad News Barrett was slowly making the Intercontinental title relevant with some great matches but lady luck didn’t smile on him. His injury has left the title vacant and WWE as always decided to end the matter with a simple battle royal.

It will be packed with many mid card talents and we are sure to see a new champion crowned at Battleground.

From all the men that’ll compete in the battle royal, Cesaro stands out as a clear favorite. He is someone who could carry the title just like Bad News Barrett and Paul Heyman always take things to a different level.

Dolph Ziggler is another strong favorite but he seems to be heading for an angle with Summer Rae in which he wouldn’t need the title.

Prediction: Cesaro wins the title

#2 Tag Team Championship

The Tag Team division is one of those things in WWE which is at a standstill right now. There aren’t enough good teams with which the WWE could revamp the whole thing and they don’t seem to be interested in bringing new talent into the mix as well.

At MITB, Wyatt family and the Usos delivered a great match in which the WWE chose to stick with Usos rather than putting Wyatt family over as Tag team champions.

Though it wouldn’t make much sense to let Wyatt family have another go at the title after they lost fair and square, the chemistry that these two teams have might make WWE think otherwise.

Another team which is slowly rising into the mix is Stardust and Goldust. Cody’s new incarnation seems successful and WWE might just let the brothers have one more go at the titles. Either way Usos are favorites to drop the title since there is a need of freshness.

#1 WWE World Heavyweight championship

The match for the WWE World Heavyweight championship has been already announced and it will be the lights of Kane, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton that will challenge John Cena for his title.

It will probably be Cena’s first title defense after winning it in Money in the bank and because of that, the chances of Cena dropping the title is on an all-time low. Also the three wrestlers competing against him wouldn’t give the fans a star power filled SummerSlam main event.

The rumored Brock Lesnar – John Cena feud has money written all over it and will be something which the company could bank on.

For that to happen, Cena should retain the title at Battleground and also Seth Rollins should not cash in the contract that he has.
