The Extreme Rules pay-per-view came into life in 2009 as an alteration of the One Night Stand which upheld the essence of the original ECW.
Gimmick matches and superstars pushing to their limits were the soul of the One Night Stand PPV and though, the violence has been a bit toned down, it still remain very high compared to the other offerings that WWE give.
This year, there have been some stipulations added to the main matches while the final match card is yet to be confirmed.
