Caroline Wozniacki was born on this day in 1990


1990: Birth of Caroline Wozniacki, a Danish professional tennis player. She is a former World No. 1 on the WTA Tour. As of 23 January 2012, she held this position for 67 weeks.


1930: On the first day of the third Test at Headingley, Don Bradman lashed an unbeaten 309 in Australia’s mammoth 458 for 3.

1930: Birth of Jack Alabaster, who played 21 Tests for New Zealand from 1955 to 1972. A leg-spin bowler, he was often partnered at the crease for his provincial side Otago by his younger brother Gren, who bowled off-spin.


1958: Birth of Hugo Sanchez, a Mexican football coach and former striker. He played for four European clubs, including Real Madrid. He was also a member of the Mexico national team, and participated in three World Cups.

1979: Birth of Eric Abidal, a French professional footballer who plays for AS Monaco FC as a left or central defender.

2008: Arsenal completed their second major signing of the summer with the capture of winger Samir Nasri.
