Oliver Kahn was born on this day in 1969

Football1975: Pele debuted for the New York Cosmos, scoring one goal and assisting another in a 2-2 draw with the Dallas Tornado.

1969: Birth of Oliver Kahn, former German football goalkeeper, who is considered as one of the most successful German players ever. His individual contributions have earned him four consecutive UEFA Best European Goalkeeper awards, three IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper awards, and two German Footballer of the Year trophies.

1964: Birth of Michael Laudrup, retired Danish footballer and current manager of Premier League club Swansea City. During his playing career, he won league titles with Ajax, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.

1933: Birth of Mark Jones, English footballer who was one of eight Manchester United players to lose their lives in the Munich air disaster.

Cricket

1955: After stumbling to 7 for 2, Australia scored 758 for 8 in the fifth Test against West Indies in Kingston, which is their highest Test total.

1969: Birth of Maurice Odumbe, a Kenyan cricketer. He was the Kenyan captain when they pulled off one of the most stunning upsets in sporting history, a 73-run victory over West Indies in the 1995-96 World Cup. He was suspended from cricket in August 2004 after being found guilty of receiving money from bookmakers.

1971: Nathan Astle, New Zealand cricketer (batsman), Test debut v Zimbabwe in 1996.

1982: Birth of Abdur Razzak, a Bangladeshi cricketer, who made his first-class debut at Bangladeshi domestic level for Khulna Division in the 2001/02 season.

Tennis

1969: Birth of Cedric Pioline, a retired French professional tennis player, who played on the professional tour from 1989 to 2002. He reached the men’s singles final at the 1993 US Open and at Wimbledon in 1997.

Boxing

1985: Pinklon Thomas KOs Mike Weaver in 8 for Heavyweight boxing title.

1987: Michael Spinks TKOs Gerry Cooney in 5 for Heavyweight boxing title.
