The Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team is the official cricket team of Sri Lanka for the ICC Women’s tournaments and the Asian Games women’s category. It is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is run by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

This side has been into the mix for a long time now. Yet, they have not been able to win any silverware. This side has talent, which is evident from their Asia Cup run, but the players cannot perform to potential in pressure situations. This has resulted in zero championship wins for them.

Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team was an associate member of the ICC since 1965. However, they attained full membership 16 years later in 1981.

They played their first international match in 1997 which was an ODI against Netherlands Women on 25 November 1997 in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The home team could not chase 133 set by Netherlands as they crumbled for a mere 113 and lost by 19 runs.

They played their first and only Test against Pakistan from 17 - 20 April 1998 at Colombo. Sri Lanka beat the tourists quite comprehensively by 309 runs. Pakistan batters failed in both innings and could not reach 200 even once whereas Sri Lanka scored over 200 both times.

The first ever T20I that Sri Lanka women played was against Pakistan Women in the ICC Women’s World T20 at Taunton. In the league stage match, Pakistan could manage only 104 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka batters chased it down with 10 balls and 4 wickets remaining.

The Sri Lankan Women’s team has participated in four ICC Women’s World Cups, six Asia Cups and once in the Asian Games.

They ended up as the runners-up in four consecutive Asia Cups from 2004 to 2008. They also won the Bronze medal in the Asian Games 2014.

They are currently ranked 8th in the ICC Women’s Rankings.
