ATP Miami - American teen sets up showdown with Federer

American teen Ryan Harrison set up an intriguing showdown with the hottest player on the ATP Tour – Roger Federer – after surviving a three set battle in the first round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Harrison beat Italian Potito Starace 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4 “From the maturity standpoint I’m able to focus on the task at hand more than frustration and things not going my way,” commented Harrison. “I’m learning how to take things and say, ‘Even though to this point I haven’t been able to execute what I want to, let’s keep trying. Let’s not dwell on what hasn’t happened. Let’s look forward to making sure that I try to do everything I can to make positive things happen.’”

In other first round matches, Marcos Baghdatis beat Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6-1, 6-4 while Ivo Karlovic will hit 27 aces to beat Poland’s Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-6(2).

Aussie teen Bernard Tomic also won his first round match.
