Louisa Chirico vs Nuria Parrizas-Diaz preview

Louisa Chirico will take on Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the final of the BBVA Open on Sunday.
Chirico has played most of her tennis on the ITF circuit this year. She entered the qualifiers in Melbourne, Austin, Miami, and Stuttgart but couldn't make it past the first round. The American reached the second round in Charleston, which was her best result on tour.
Chirico entered Valencia after a second round exit in Makarska 125. She started her campaign by cruising past Maria Lourdes Carle and Mona Barthel in the initial few rounds and then defeated Hanne Vandewinkel in the semifinal. Chirico defeated the Belgian Vandewinkel in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5).

Meanwhile, Nuria Parrizas-Diaz has had a decent season so far. After first-round exits in Hobart and Melbourne, she reached the second round in Austin and the semifinals in Bari. Despite a valiant effort against Anca Alexia Todoni, the Romanian defeated her at the Open delle Puglie, 6-2, 6-4.
The Spaniard started her campaign in Valencia with confident wins over Ane Mintegi Del Olmo, and Sara Bejlek in the initial few rounds. She then eliminated the sixth seed Xinyu Gao in the semifinal, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Diaz won 57% of her first serve points in the last match.

Louisa Chirico vs Nuria Parrizas-Diaz prediction

Chirico has done well on the ITF circuit in the last few years. She won the W75 events in Charlottesville VA and Toronto last year and now is close to opening her account in Valencia. The American has looked sharp this week and has only dropped one set en route to the final.
Diaz, on the contrary, won three ITF titles last year and also reached the finals of the Slovenia Open (WTA 125). She's survived two matches that went the distance this week and will be eager to finish the job in the finals. The Spaniard needs to fine-tune her serve after getting broken six times in the semifinals.
Considering their record on clay and results on tour, Diaz will be a slight favorite to come out on top. Chirico has been sensational in Valencia but the Spaniard should be able to absorb the early pressure and outlast her opponent in the final.
Pick: Nuria Parrizas-Diaz to win in three sets.
