Aryna Sabalenka vs Rebeka Masarova preview

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will kickstart her grass-court season in 2025 when she takes on Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova in the second round of the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open. Sabalenka has had a tremendous season in 2025, reaching seven finals in the year. In the initial hard-court season, she won titles in Adelaide and Miami, reaching the finals of the Australian Open and the BNP Paribas Open.
Sabalenka maintained her dominance on the clay as well, winning the title in Madrid, along with reaching the finals in Stuttgart and at Roland Garros. However, for the second time this year, the top-ranked Belarusian player lost a Major final against an American player, losing the final in Paris against Coco Gauff after she had lost against Madison Keys in Melbourne. At the Berlin Tennis Open, she got a bye in the first round, as she is the top seed.
Rebeka Masarova has not had the best of seasons in 2025, as she has not made it past the third round at any of the events she has played at. She had third-round exits in Miami and Madrid, losing against Danielle Collins and Peyton Stearns, respectively.
At the Berlin Tennis Open, she won 7-6 (1), 7-5 against former Top-10 player Maria Sakkari, and she won 7-5, 6-1 against local favorite Ella Seidel to enter the main draw from qualifying. She began her campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over another qualifier and former Major champion Sofia Kenin in the first round.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Rebeka Masarova prediction
Grass remains Sabalenka's weakest surface in terms of performance, as she has a 62 percent win rate on the surface with no titles to her name. She has reached two finals on the surface, the last of which came at the 2022 Libema Open, losing 5-7, 0-6 against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Meanwhile, Masarova has yet to make a career final on grass, as her only WTA final appearance was on the hard court at the 2023 ASB Classic. She has not reached any grass-court finals at the lower-tier events on the Challenger and ITF Tours.
Current form makes Sabalenka the clear favorite to win the upcoming match and begin her grass-court season with a strong start.
