Karolina Muchova vs Yue Yuan
preview

2023 French Open runner-up Karolina Muchova will face 30th seed Yue Yuan in the Round of 64 of the China Open 2024 on Saturday, 28 September. The winner of the match will face either seventh seed Barbora Krejcikova or Jaqueline Cristian in the third round of the WTA 1000 event.
The Czech entered the tournament in Beijing at the back of a semifinal run at the US Open, where she beat the likes of Katie Volynets, Naomi Osaka, Anastasia Potapova, Jasmine Paolini and Beatriz Haddad Maia before losing to eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula.
Muchova started her campaign at the China Open with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 win over Anna Blinkova.
Yuan had a disappointing US Open campaign, as she suffered a first-round exit at the hands of Erika Andreeva. The Chinese started her Asian swing at the Korea Open, where she was seeded eighth, and beat Elena-Gabriela Ruse 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.
She faced Emma Raducanu in the second round and suffered a 4-6, 3-6 loss to the Brit. The 26-year-old was seeded 30th at the China Open and as a result, she received a bye to the second round.

Karolina Muchova vs Yue Yuan
prediction
These two players can promise a fixture of contrasting playstyles clashing against each other in complete aggression. Muchova is known for her killer volleys and unforgiving net play, while Yuan is a solid baseline player, accurately driving her forehands into space. Muchova also orchestrates drop shots toward her baseline-playing opponents, often surprising them. While Yuan is not primarily known for her speed, this may be an area where the Czech player catches her off guard.
Yuan may also try to extend rallies and tire out Muchova; she is a more experienced player and will use her high tennis IQ to find a solution effectively. She has played against significantly higher quality opposition(average rank of 68) in the last twelve months than her Chinese rival(average rank of 124), giving her an edge stepping into this fixture. Yuan's only advantage could be to stretch the game into the final set, as performing under pressure is where Muchova has struggled lately.
Pick - Muchova will win in three sets.
