Sebastian Baez and Federico Coria are set to duke it out in an all-Argentine final at the 2023 Cordoba Open on Sunday.

Following a first-round bye, Baez defeated Luciano Darderi in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals. He was then tested a fair bit by Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera, but managed to win in three sets to make the semifinals. He took on Hugo Dellien for a spot in the title round.

Baez started the match with a break of serve to go 2-0 up, but Dellien bagged the next three games to lead 3-2. The Argentine then won three games in a row to go 5-3 up. He held onto the lead this time to clinch the opening set soon afterwards.

Baez dealt the first blow in the second set as he jumped to a 4-2 lead. Dellien fought back to make it 4-4. but the 22-year-old broke his opponent's serve in the next game to go 5-4 up. He then served out the match with ease to win 6-4, 6-4.

Coria, meanwhile, scored a comeback win over Thiago Monteiro in the first round. He led Marco Cecchinato by a set in the second round, but the Italian retired after that to send him into the next round. Up against second seed Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinals, Coria led 6-3, 3-0 when his opponent had to retire with an injury.

The 30-year-old faced defending champion Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the semifinals. Coria held numerous break points on Ramos-Vinolas' serve throughout the first set. He finally managed to secure a break of serve in the 10th game to bag the opener.

Ramos-Vinolas led by a break thrice in the second set, but Coria fought back to level the score on each occasion. The Spaniard even held a couple of set points at 6-5 only to squander them. This proved to be his undoing as the Argentine gained the upper hand in the eventual tie-break to win the match 6-4, 7-6 (2).

Federico Coria at the 2023 United Cup.

Baez had lost 17 of his last 18 matches prior to competing at the Cordoba Open. It took him quite some time, but he has finally managed to string together some wins. He was quite solid against Dellien in the semifinals and has looked quite good all week.

Coria has established himself as a solid top-100 player over the last couple of years. He has now reached a second ATP final and will be gunning for his maiden title. Coria did get a little lucky this week as two of his opponents had to retire in the midst of a match, but the 30-year-old played quite well too.

Coria's break-point conversion was rather poor in the semifinals, going 4/20. Missing out on so many chances won't do him any favors in the final and he'll need to be more clutch. Baez is quite a solid player on clay and looks to have rediscovered his form. This is likely to be a long but engaging duel, with the younger Argentine favored to win.

Pick: Sebastian Baez to win in three sets.
