Bishop Cotton Boys School is proud to announce the first edition of the Cottonian Cup – a premium inter-school tennis tournament in India. The Cottonian Cup, like the legendary Cottonian Shield (cricket), was birthed to give school children the chance to play competitive tennis and boost camaraderie amongst the top schools of Karnataka.

In its first edition, the Cottonian Cup is restricted to schools within Karnataka region. Year 2014 will see the introduction of the event at a national level with zonal qualifying events at New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. And in 2015, Bangalore will host both national and qualifying international participant sporting teams from Dubai, Sri Lanka, Australia, Japan, USA and UK.

The Cottonian Cup 2013 will be held at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association, Cubbon Park, from November 17th to 24th 2013.

There will be both individual and team events. The individual event has four age categories (10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under), while the team event has two age categories (12 and under, 16 and under).

Two types of ITF certified balls will be used for the tournament – low compression, 25% slower green dot balls for 10 years and under, and standard yellow colour 100% pressure balls for all other age groups.

Interestingly, the Cottonian Cup has been ideated and executed by the ex-sports-captain of Bishop Cotton Boys School, Ronnie Sehgal. Ronnie heads the Bangalore-based Bulldog Sportz Management P Ltd (BSMPL), a decade-young team of sports professionals striving for the development of a much-needed sports culture at the professional, community and grass root level in the country.
