Indian tennis number one Somdev Devvarman entered the final round of the French open qualifiers with a straight set victory over young Frenchman Quentin Halys 7-6 (4) 6-3. The 16 year old Halys, with an ATP ranking of 1053, gave quite a scare to the world number 187 in the first set being a break up and leading 5-2. However, Somdev’s experience helped him to claw his way back into the set which he eventually won in a tie break 7-4. The second set was on serve till the 8th game when Somdev broke the Frenchman and then served out the match to advance to the final round of qualification.
Quentin Halys had previously defeated world number 161 Jimmy Wang from Chinese Taipei in the opening round. In the final round, Devvarman will play the winner of the match between 8th-seeded American Wayne Odesnik and German Cedric Stebe.
