In what was the most unexpected turn of events at Monte Carlo masters ,the gutsy Serbian, blotted Nadal’s impeccable record of eight straight titles at the country club, with a stunning straight sets win here on sunday.

The match which lasted just eight minutes short of the 2 hour mark, saw several breaks of serve. In the first set, which Djokovic won 6-2 saw four breaks of serve, one by the defending champion and the rest by the Serb. The second set was a tight affair with both the players breaking each other’s serves twice. The second set too went in favour of the usurper who won the set tie breaker 7-1.The Serb served two aces against Nadal’s three double faults.

This defeat resulted in Nadal’s 46-match winning streak at the Monacan capital coming to an end. This will, for sure boost the world no.1′s confidence ahead of the other two masters tournaments in Rome and Madrid and of course, the French Open too. The Serb will be eying the title at Roland Garros title as it will help him achieve what only Nadal and his old nemesis Federer have managed to do among the active players on tour- a career grand slam. This will further help him in etching his dominance in today’s game. For sure no one is ready to gift the Serb the silverware at Roland Garros, be it Nadal or Federer or Murray or even David Ferrer and the rest. He has to tread the thorny path where a canter is nowhere near possible.
