Grigor Dimitrov vs Fabian Marozsan preview

Tenth seed Grigor Dimitrov will square off against Fabian Marozsan in the second round of the 2024 French Open on Wednesday.
Dimitrov kicked off his campaign in Paris against Aleksandar Kovacevic. The Bulgarian found himself on the backfoot, as he went 4-3 down in the opening set. However, he quickly got back on track, bagging the next three games to take the set.
The Bulgarian carried the momentum into the second set, jumping to a 3-0 lead. He kept Kovacevic at bay for the rest of the set to take control of the match with a two-set lead. He was on the cusp of victory, as a break of serve put him 4-2 up in the third set.
Dimitrov stumbled close to the finish line, as Kovacevic fought back to level the score. However, the Bulgarian put an end to his resistance, claiming the next couple of games for a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win.
Meanwhile, Marozsan's first-round opponent in Paris was qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin. The Hungarian squandered his lead in the first set but regrouped by winning the last three games to clinch the opener.
He quickly raced to a 5-1 lead in the second set, only to get broken while serving for the set. Nevertheless, he broke back immediately to capture the set. A lone break of serve in the third set sealed a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 win.

Grigor Dimitrov vs Fabian Marozsan prediction

The clay swing hasn't gone too smoothly for Marozsan. He won two matches before the French Open, with one of them being a mid-match retirement from his opponent. Thus, his first-round win over Kukushkin was the need of the hour, snapping his three-match losing streak.
Dimitrov has been more consistent compared to Marozsan but hasn't matched his highs from the hardcourt swing on clay. Aside from the occasional hiccup, he didn't struggle as much against Kovacevic in his opener. He won 83 percent of his first serve points and struck 35 winners during the match.
Marozsan has a couple of top-10 wins this season, but given his recent troubles on clay, getting the better of Dimitrov could prove to be a tall order. The Bulgarian could encounter some challenges but should advance eventually.
Pick: Grigor Dimitrov to win in four sets
