Former World No. 1 Andy Murray notched up his 700th career win on Friday, battling past Japan's Taro Daniel in the opening round of the 2022 BNP Paribas Open.

The Brit clawed his way back from a set down to seal a dramatic win, the kind that we've grown accustomed to seeing over the course of his long and illustrious career.

The Brit registered his first ATP tour win at the Queen's Club Championships in 2005, when he beat Santiago Ventura. The then 18-year-old delighted home fans with another win, this time over ninth seed Taylor Dent, before going down to Thomas Johansson.

Murray's 100th match win came a few years later. He beat Johansson in the quarterfinals in Doha 2008 to achieve the milestone.

Wins over Juan Carlos Ferrero at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships, Gilles Simon at the Cincinnati Masters and Florian Mayer at the 2013 Madrid Open marked his 200th, 300th and 400th tour-level victories.

The Brit had to wait a while for his next milestone. Playing at the 2015 Miami Masters, the Brit notched up his 500th win against Kevin Anderson.

Murray met Anderson at the Cincinnati Masters the following year. He once again beat the South Africa to post win No. 600.

Injuries meant Murray had to wait over five years to reach the milestone of 700 wins. The Brit came into the 2022 BNP Paribas Open with 699 victories under his belt. He overcame Taro Daniel in three sets to reach 700, becoming only the 18th player in tennis history to achieve the feat.

But Murray's hunger for success has not subsided. Speaking after the match, the 34-year-old said his focus would now shift to 800.

"This was a target that I set for myself on the back end of last year," Murray said after his win. "It's a lot of wins obviously, and I'm very happy to get it here. Let's go for 800 now."

Murray will next take on 31st seed Alexander Bublik in the second round of the 2022 BNP Paribas Open on Sunday.
