In 2016, New Delhi would be hosting two junior championships of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) earlier allotted to Pakistan, an All India Tennis Association (AITA) official said here on Friday.

The tournaments were shifted after Pakistan requested AITA to help them organise the events in New Delhi in July or August as it would give budding tennis talent from Pakistan an opportunity to feature in the tournaments.

"People find it unsafe to go to Pakistan. So we will hold two ITF tournaments allotted to Pakistan in our country," AITA executive committee member Hironmoy Chatterjee told IANS.

"They have requested us to do that. Depriving the tennis-loving youngsters in Pakistan is not good. They can come here and play in the two tournaments," said Chatterjee. AITA’s initiative comes at a time when sporting ties between the neighbours have been affected by political issues.
