The Australian-British doubles pair of Jamie Murray and John Peers moved into the finals of the US Open after beating Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey in a thrilling three setter 6- 4, 6-7(2-7), 7-6( 9-7) reported BBC Sport. This is the pair’s second consecutive final after Wimbledon earlier this year.
They will face the French duo of Nicholas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert who beat Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindtstedt in their semi-finals 7-5, 6-2.
Murray was extremely happy after his victory, saying "my nerves are shot but we're so happy to win and get to the final.”
The Wimbledon finalist was also content by the pairs performance, “We played a very high level match and the other guys were serving really well but we managed to turn it around," he said.
Murray and Peers took the first set easily with the as the American pair were unable to break their serve on four chances. The Americans then took second set 7-2 on tie- break to making a strong comeback. In the third set Murray and Peers were 5-3 up in the deciding set but the Americans broke back to make it 5 -5. Enroute the finals they saved a match point in the tie- break.
In the other semis fixture, Dominic Inglot of Great Britain and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden were beaten by Mahut and Herbert in straight sets. This is Inglot’s best performance after two quarterfinal losses at the Australian Open.
They were unable to take their break point chances and were weak in their service games. Unable to keep a hold, they conceded the match easily.
"Credit to them, they were just better on the day,” said Inglot following the match
He also said he had not been in form. “It wasn't my best day; I thought I let us down a bit so I'm a bit disappointed with that,” he told reporters.
