Chennai, 24th September 2014:

Aircel Chennai Open 2015 has confirmed participation from one of the tournament’s favorites and 2013 singles champion, Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, who will be back to battle it out at the US $450,000 tournament and stake a claim to the crown. 2015 will mark the 20th edition of a tournament that is known to be India and South Asia’s only ATP World Tour tennis event. Drawing many of the world’s leading players, Aircel Chennai Open 2015 is scheduled to be played at Chennai’s SDAT Stadium from5th to 11th January next year.

For the seventh year, Tipsarevic (career high of 8, April 2, 2012) will kick-start his season at the Aircel Chennai Open. In 2013, Tipsarevic had a dream start to the season when he captured the fourth ATP World Tour title of his career, defeating Bautista Agut (Spain) in three sets 3–6, 6–1, 6–3. Noteworthy achievements last year include progressing to Round 4 of the Australian Open and US Open, and defeating Vasek Pospisil in an emphatic tiebreak at the deciding singles of the Davis Cup semifinal. He finished in the top 50 for the 6th year in a row.

In the 2012 edition of the Aircel Chennai Open, Tipsarevic lost to 21-year-old Canadian Milos Raonic in an epic three hour and 14-minute singles final. Immediately following this match, Tipsarevic won the 2012 doubles crown with Indian ace Leander Paes in front of a full-house Centre Court crowd. A few months after, the Serb reached a career high ranking of a fantastic World No. 8, and for a second consecutive year, finished in the top 10.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Hiten Joshi, CEO, Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) said, “It gives us joy to know that Janko Tipsarevic is recovering from injury and back in the game. He has confirmed his participation and is starting his season at the Aircel Chennai Open 2015, which is fantastic news. Tennis fans here love Tipsarevic and we are sure his presence will excite tennis followers across the country.”
