India’s no. 2 singles player Kyra Shroff has gained direct entry into the $25K ITF event in Pune next week. Kyra is currently ranked no. 488 in the world and is second among Indians on the WTA list after Sania Mirza.

The top seed in the event will be Russian Nina Bratchikova. The event will be played at the Deccan Gymkhana courts, on December 24.

Bratchikova is currently ranked no. 80 in the world and was in Pune a few weeks ago where she won the WTA Challenger doubles event.

Tournament Director, Mukund Joshi commented, “We are back with an event that has been a regular feature on the international calendar for over a decade now. This is the oldest women’s tournament in India and also longest running tournament. The qualifying rounds would be held on December 22 and 23, while the main draw matches would begin on December 24, with the finals to be played on December 29.”

Joint Organising Secretary Prashant Gosavi commented, “We are proud of the fact that the tournament has attracted a top-100 player this year in Nina Bratchikova.”

Other players in the singles draw will include Aleksandra Krunik of Serbia (World No 171), Slovenia’s Tadeja Majeric (239), Sheng-Nan Sun (255), Conny Perinn of Switzerland (271), Jasmina Tinjic (276), Belarus’ Illona Kremen (279) and Thai girl Noppawan Lertcheewakarn (283).
