Latest ATP Rankings: Somdev climbs 13 spots to 101st, Ankita placed 280th

India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman advanced thirteen spots to hold the 101st position in the latest ATP rankings.

The Indian made the ranking leap after reaching the second round of the US Open, where he lost to Italy’s 20th seed Andreas Seppi.

The Tripura-born lad has been coming up with decent wins in recent times.

He performed exceedingly well at the recent ATP Citi Open in Washington. Somdev upset defending champion and world number 25 Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in the second round before being slugged out by the big-serving American John Isner in the third round.

Somdev also made it to the semifinals of the ATP Nottingham Challenger tournament. Earlier this year, he attained a semifinal finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy, as well as a second-round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

Among the other Indians, Prakash Amritraj, son of the legendary Vijay Amritraj, moved up two places to 269th.

Saketh Myneni, who won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures earlier this year, fell two spots to be at 312th.

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who won the Coimbatore ITF Futures this year, surged fifty two spots to be at 323rd position.

Sanam Singh plunged forty places to languish at 379th spot.

Vijayant Malik climbed two places to be at 450th position.

N Sriram Balaji, who won the Chennai ITF Futures this year, slumped sixty nine places to occupy the 471st spot.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina fell five spots and continues to be the country’s highest ranked women’s singles player at 280th position.

Rishika Sunkara, who was breathing down the neck of Ankita Raina earlier this year, advanced twenty nine spots to be ranked 463rd.

Prarthana Thombare jumped twenty one places to be at 532nd position.

Shweta Rana climbed twenty two places to occupy the 544th position.

Nidhi Chilumula fell three places to be at 569th.
