Latest world tennis rankings: Somdev Devvarman drops one spot to 114th, Ankita Raina surges to 311th

India’s highest ranked men’s singles player Somdev Devvarman fell one spot to 114th position in the latest ATP rankings.

The Indian, who reached the second round of the ongoing US Open before losing to Spain’s 20th seed Andreas Seppi, has been coming up with decent wins in recent times.

The Tripura-born lad performed exceedingly well at the recent ATP Citi Open in Washington. Somdev upset defending champion and world number 25 Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in the second round before being slugged out by the big-serving American John Isner in the third round.

Somdev also made it to the semifinals of the ATP Nottingham challenger tournament. He attained a semifinal finish at the ATP Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy, as well as a second-round appearance at the French Open after going through the qualifying route.

Among the other Indians, Prakash Amritraj, son of the legendary Vijay Amritraj, moved up one place to 271st. Saketh Myneni, who won both the Chandigarh and Rohtak Futures earlier this year, advanced two spots to be at 310th.

Sanam Singh stayed put at 339th spot. Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, who won the Coimbatore ITF Futures this year, climbed two spots to be at 375th position.

N Sriram Balaji, who won the Chennai ITF Futures this year, jumped nine places to occupy the 402nd spot. Vijayant Malik dropped one place to be 451st position.

Among the Indian women, Ankita Raina climbed nineteen places to occupy the 311th spot and continues to be the country’s highest ranked women’s singles player.

Rishika Sunkara, who was breathing down the neck of Ankita Raina earlier this year, slumped fourteen spots to 522nd.

Nidhi Chilumula dropped one place to be placed 591th.

Prarthana Thombare stayed put at 592nd position.
