Miami Open 2023: Men's draw, schedule, players, prize money breakdown and more

BNP Paribas Open - Day 9
Daniil Medvedev will be a heavy favorite to win the Miami Open

The men's singles tournament at the 2023 Miami Open will start on March 22 and we are in for an exciting few days of tennis action during the second half of the Sunshine Double.

Like last season, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will not be competing in Miami. However, several top players will be taking part in this Masters 1000 tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz won the tournament last season by beating Casper Ruud in the final and the Spaniard will be eager to defend his title in 2023. However, Alcaraz won't have it easy as Daniil Medvedev is a strong title contender as is Stefanos Tsitsipas if he is fit enough to compete.

The likes of Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime are also capable of contending for the title in this tournament.

On that note, here is all you need to know about the Miami Open.

What is the Miami Open?

The Miami Open is an outdoor hardcourt tournament and the other half of the Sunshine Double. It is one of the most prestigious events during the tennis calendar and is part of the ATP Masters 1000 series and the WTA1000 series.

The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in Delray Beach in 1985 before shifting to Boca West the following year. From 1987 to 2018, the Miami Open was held in Key Biscayne before moving to Miami Gardens.

Andre Agassi and Novak Djokovic have won the tournament a record six times each. Other champions include Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Pete Sampras and Andy Roddick.

Venue

The 2023 Miami Open will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz is the top seed at the 2023 Miami Open and will be backed by many to win the tournament. However, second seed Daniil Medvedev is the heaviest favorite to win the Masters 1000 tournament given his current form.

Last year's runner-up Casper Ruud has had a poor start to the 2023 season. He will be looking to bounce back, starting with a good showing in Miami.

The likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz are also capable of challenging for the Masters 1000 tournament. Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz and Jannik Sinner could spring a few surprises and make a deep run as well.

It's worth noting that the experienced Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem will both be in the main draw of the tournament.
