In a pre-tournament press conference, Coco Gauff said she had no expectations of winning the Canadian Open and that she was playing the WTA 1000 event to assess her condition ahead of the US Open.

Following her third-round loss at the event, Gauff said in an interview (via WTA Tennis):

"Sometimes I question like whether I should have played or not but at the end of the day, I wanted to test myself and see if I would be able to, how I would do being mentally tired a little bit and physically fatigued. I said going into the tournament I didn't have high expectations, but I wish I could have competed better today, even if it resulted in a loss. I don't think I competed well."

Coco Gauff was one of the few competitors to play in the Canadian Open after competing at the Paris Olympics 2024. Several top players decided to skip the WTA 1000 event and will begin their US Open swing with the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
