Andrey Rublev has a new fan in the pop industry. The World No. 7 recently met with musical icon Pink ahead of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters.

Pink was in La Quinta to participate in the annual Desert Smash charity event with other celebrities such as Sean Penn and Robin Thicke. She tried her hand at tennis alongside tennis royalty such as Victoria Azarenka, Grigor Dimitrov, Casper Ruud, Frances Tiafoe, Marta Kostyuk and Donna Vekic.

Andrey Rublev, a self-proclaimed music enthusiast, took the opportunity to spend time with the Trustfall singer ahead of the event.

The founder of Desert Smash, Ryan Macaulay, posted a lovely picture from the duo’s meet-up on his Instagram.

“New besties,” the founder of the event declared.

This isn’t the first time the worlds of music and tennis have collided in recent times. In 2022, former World No. 2 Casper Ruud found a devoted fan in musical legend Shania Twain, who was seen in his box during a few of his matches. Most notably, the singer was present as Ruud successfully defended his title in Gstaad, Switzerland.

Andrey Rublev has had a mixed start to his 2023 campaign. The tennis player commenced his season with a first-round loss at the Adelaide International 1, followed by another loss in his opening match at the Adelaide International 2.

At the Australian Open, however, the Russian made a decent effort, reaching his seventh Grand Slam quarterfinal. However, at the Rotterdam Open, the 25-year-old suffered yet another first-round defeat, and in Qatar, he made the quarterfinals.

Things are, however, looking up for the former World No. 5. He scored his most significant result of the season thus far during his title defense at the Dubai Tennis Championships, where he lifted the runner-up trophy this time around.

Andrey Rublev will hope to make a deep run at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters in pursuit of his first Masters 1000 title. The Russian athlete, who has five ATP 500 titles and seven ATP 250 titles to his name, has previously featured in two Masters 1000 finals in Monte-Carlo and Cincinnati in 2021, but is yet to cross the finish line.

Rublev, who was a semifinalist at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, is seeded sixth in the event this year. His projected path to the title includes potential clashes with Jiri Lehecka in Round 2, Denis Shapovalov in Round 3, Cameron Norrie in Round 4, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals, Daniil Medvedev/ Casper Ruud in the semifinals and Carlos Alcaraz/ Taylor Fritz in the final.
