Andy Murray amused by meme showing the greatest athletes of all time, ft. Serena Williams and Muhammad Ali

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray was left in splits courtesy of a fan-made meme, the original version of which showed a list of five of the greatest athletes of all time.

A Twitter user recently shared a screenshot from an ESPN sports broadcast in which commentator and presenter Max Kellerman ranked the top five greatest-ever athletes according to him.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan topped the all-American list, followed by boxing great Muhammad Ali, baseball legend Babe Ruth, former football quarterback Tom Brady, and lastly, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams.

The list went viral once again after one creative social media user decided to turn it into a meme. While the bottom four names remained as they were, someone removed Michael Jordan from the top spot and wrote:

"When my golf buddy plays by himself."

The memer was probably trying to say that whenever people play golf alone, they reward themselves with great scores since no one is there to check. Former World No. 1 Murray shared the meme on his social media, along with a laughing emoji.

Andy Murray gets wildcard entry into Dubai Tennis Championships

A number of injuries have hampered Andy Murray over the last few years, with the Brit playing the 2022 US Open with a metal hip.

However, he demonstrated extraordinary resilience at the recently-concluded 2023 Australian Open with a couple of thrilling five-set victories. The 35-year-old defeated last year's semifinalist Matteo Berrettini and home favorite Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first two rounds before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the third. He spent over 14 hours on the court during his three clashes.

Although Murray withdrew from the upcoming Rotterdam Open, he has received a wildcard to play at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, set to be played from February 27 to March 4. The three-time Grand Slam champion won the tournament in 2017 when he downed Fernando Verdasco in the final.

The Brit will compete against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, defending champion Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Alexander Zverev.

“Coming back to Dubai brings with it a lot of good memories, not least 2017 and the final with Fernando," Murray said. “My form is improving and my game is getting better, so the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships provides another great opportunity for me to continue to climb back up the rankings.”
