Boris Becker has congratulated Daniil Medvedev following his title win at the 2023 Miami Open. Medvedev ended Jannik Sinner's hopes of winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title in straight sets on Sunday (April 2) to win his fourth and biggest title of the year.

Medvedev and Sinner exchanged breaks early in the opening set of the final before the Russian went on a four-game win streak to take the first set and secure a lead in the second.

Despite a valiant fight from the Italian in the second set, the former World No.1 stayed clinical to win the match 7-5, 6-3, and clinch his fifth ATP Masters 1000 title.

German tennis legend Becker took to social media to share a clip of himself enjoying the riveting battle between Medvedev and Sinner. Following the match, he was quick to congratulate Medvedev on his exceptional performance.

"Congratulations DM," Becker wrote on his Instagram story.

Daniil Medvedev made no secret of his dissatisfaction with the slow court conditions at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. He was especially critical of the court during his fourth-round match against Alexander Zverev as he stated that it was "a shame to call this court a hardcourt."

During his winner's speech, Medvedev lauded the environment at the Miami Open as he thanked everyone responsible for putting on the tournament.

"I would like to thank everyone who made this tournament possible. All the sponsors, ball kids, everyone from A to B. I love, I love playing on tour, love the organisation. So, yeah, just amazing tournament, amazing city. And I really enjoyed it. These two weeks, I would not focus on it too much. Otherwise I repeat myself," he said.

The 27-year-old then took a sly dig at the Indian Wells court conditions when he stated that the Miami Open court was the "real hardcourt."

"But as you can see guys, sometimes I can handle myself and be calm on the court when I feel like it's a real hardcourt. So, thanks a lot to, I don't know who makes this decision, but thanks a lot to, to everyone who made this such part this year. I was yeah, really happy to play on it," he added.

With his title win in Miami, Daniil Medvedev will make his return to the top-4 in the ATP rankings on Monday (April 3).
