Carlos Alcaraz becomes second fastest to win 100 ATP matches after John McEnroe, overtakes Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and others

Carlos Alcaraz's victory over Tallon Griekspoor at the Indian Wells Masters on Monday was his 100th on the ATP tour, putting him in elite company.

With his 100/132 tour-level record, Alcaraz became the second fastest man to achieve the feat among players to reach No. 1 in the ATP rankings. Only John McEnroe (100/131) reached the milestone faster than the Spaniard, who got there ahead of legends such as Andre Agassi (100/135) and Rafael Nadal (100/137).

Mats Wilander and Jimmy Connors (100/138 matches) share the fifth position on the list.

Agassi and Wilander, however, were the youngest to reach the milestone at 18 years of age.

The elite list also includes Boris Becker, who at the age of 20 notched up his 100th tour-level win in his 140th match.

Carlos Alcaraz's first win on the ATP tour came at the Rio Open in February 2020, where he beat fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6(2), 4-6, 7-6(2) in a first-round match that ended at 3 am after a grueling three hours and 37 minutes.

Speaking at a post-match press conference after his 100th win, the 19-year-old said he was "really proud" of the achievement.

"Yeah, a lot has happened since that first ATP win. You know, I'm really proud of myself to have my 100th win on the tour, you know, in like 132 matches. I saw I was the second player in history with less matches to be able to get into 100, you know, win. Yeah, I'm really proud of myself about that (sic)," Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz has played only two tournaments so far this year, both on clay, after ending his 2022 season at the Paris Masters due to an abdominal injury. He eventually began his season at the Argentina Open last month and romped to the title.

Indian Wells is Alcaraz's first tournament on hardcourts since November 2022. He has a chance of regaining the World No. 1 ranking from Novak Djokovic by winning the Masters 1000 event.
