Coco Gauff hails from an athletic family; her father had a basketball career at Georgia State University, and her mother competed in track and field in Florida. Since the Grand Slam champion's early years, her parents have been unwavering support. Candi and Corey initially settled in Atlanta but later gave up on their jobs and moved to Florida for better training opportunities for the 21-year-old.

Now, their daughter, who started her tennis journey at the New Generation Tennis Academy under Gerard Loglo, stands atop the podium as the French Open champion. As they beamed with pride, Coco Gauff thanked her parents for their sacrifices and support in an interview with the Today Show.

"I would like to say thank you. Thank them for everything. We realized that Florida was the place to be for tennis. And so we moved from Atlanta to Florida. They had a dream house or their dream house. And for them to move, and we stayed with my grandmother and her house for about six, seven months before we were able to get our own place. And just all the sacrifice and the fact that my dad and my mom both had that belief for me from a young age. And kind of set my family straight because some of my family is like, 'What are you guys doing? Like she's doing online school while y'all are moving.'" (beginning 3:14)

She added:

My mom had a conversation with them. She's like, 'This is what we're going to do. We're going to support her. And y'all can either be here to support or not.' And since then, they all have supported me. So I'm just grateful for that support system."
