Former French Open finalist Coco Gauff is set to face the Czech Republic's Tereza Valentova in the second round of the 2025 Roland Garros. The match is scheduled for Thursday, May 29.
Gauff didn’t enjoy the strongest start to her 2025 season during the hardcourt swing, but she found her rhythm once the clay season began. She made the quarterfinals in her first clay tournament at the Stuttgart Open, where she lost to Jasmine Paolini. She then built momentum with back-to-back finals appearances in Madrid and Rome, falling to Aryna Sabalenka and Paolini, respectively.
The American is certainly making the most of her current form and arrived in Paris with plenty of confidence. She kicked off her campaign on a strong note, easing past Australia’s Olivia Gadecki with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win to move into the second round.
Where is Coco Gauff playing?
Gauff is currently in action at the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the year and the only one played on clay.
The 21-year-old is participating in the event for the seventh time in her career, having made her debut in 2019, where she exited in the second round of qualifying. Her best performance to date came in 2022, when she reached the final before falling to Iga Swiatek.
Who is Coco Gauff playing against?

Coco Gauff's opponent in the second round of the 2025 French Open is World No. 172 Tereza Valentova.
Valentova earned her spot in the main draw by coming through the qualifiers, where she defeated Arina Rodionova and Dalma Galfi. In the first round of the main draw, the Czech came from a set down to beat France’s Chloe Paquet 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and book a clash with the former finalist.
