Coco Gauff's 2025 French Open title victory has been received very positively back in her home country. Earlier on Wednesday, June 11, the American received raucous applause from fans while attending the New York Liberty vs Chicago Sky game at Barclays Center. The two-time Major winner's younger brother, Cameron, was also among the crowd that was cheering her on - a gesture that admittedly meant a lot to her.

Gauff won her second Grand Slam tournament in scintillating fashion last Sunday (June 8), beating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and 40 minutes to secure her maiden triumph in Paris. The 21-year-old returned to the USA earlier this week to watch the New York Liberty down the Chicago Sky 85-66 with her brother, Cameron, on Wednesday.

At one point, Coco Gauff was shown on the jumbotron at Barclays Center, as she received a standing ovation for her efforts on the famed terre battue last fortnight. The World No. 2 happily soaked up the reception and later reacted to her 12-year-old brother cheering vociferously for her ovation. She reposted an Instagram carousel featuring Cameron's reaction and a few photos of her family.

Coco Gauff says she "wasn't expecting" the reaction from WNBA fans

In a TikTok video, Coco Gauff claimed that she wasn't expecting the whole arena to cheer for her so loudly, considering she wasn't a household name in women's basketball.

"I just came from the Liberty game and, like, they announced me that I was there and the whole arena was cheering for me, which I wasn't expecting, just because I... It's not my sport," Coco Gauff said on her TikTok handle later on Wednesday.

"I'm at a basketball game, and it just made me realize, like, how many people see me, and this is crazy. And I really appreciate you guys."

The 21-year-old added that she was also shocked by so many fans taking to her off-court personality.

"In interviews, sometimes I try to hold the emotions back and, like, I'm right now trying to do it," she added. "But it just... like, I'm, like, feel tears come in. Like, it's like the tennis thing is one thing, but the fact that so many people are connecting and come up to me just for my personality and just on a personal level, like, it's crazy."

The World No. 2 is next scheduled to play at the Berlin Ladies Open, as she begins her preparations for Wimbledon.
