Matteo Berrettini’s younger brother Jacopo has made it through to the main draw of the ATP 500 Mexican Open in Acapulco. In response, the elder Berrettini has shared his emotions about the achievement.

Jacopo Berrettini, who is currently ranked World No. 842, was awarded a qualifying wild card at the ongoing Abierto Mexicano de Tenis in Acapulco. And he managed to make the most of his opportunity.

The Italian player scored a stunning comeback victory after suffering a first-set bagel against Frenchman Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the opening qualifier match, winning 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the final qualifying round, Jacopo beat compatriot Luciano Darderi in straight sets to book a spot in the main draw of the tournament.

The 24-year-old will now lock horns with German tennis player Oscar Otte in the Round of 32.

Matteo Berrettini, who is also set to compete at the tournament, expressed delight at his brother’s victories. The 26-year-old revealed that his stress levels were high as he watched his younger brother battle it out on the court.

“Stress level: yes,” Matteo captioned a video of him fidgeting throughout the match.

Matteo Berrettini has had a lackluster start to his 2023 season. While the Italian player registered three noteworthy wins against Thiago Monteiro, Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz in the United Cup, he was beaten by three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray in the first round at the Australian Open.

With renewed hope, Berrettini will now participate in the Mexican Open in Acapulco, where he is drawn against Slovak Alex Molcan in the Round of 32.
